With an Alps trip coming up I think I'm going to modify my current XT 3 x 9 setup (not sure of ring sizes - standard so guessing 22/32/42) to incorporate a chain device & bash guard. I'm utterly clueless as to what will work, though I have been recommended a Black Spire Stinger.
When I've done any gravity-assisted riding before it's mostly in the big ring to keep the chain more taut but still comes off, hence going down this route.
I want to keep the front mech and a double. I don't have ISG tabs (2008 Meta) and not sure if chainline will be an issue either.
Given that it's for 1 week I don't want to spend a fortune - what would you recommend?
What I really want is someone to say the Stinger works a treat on that bike with XX guard 😆
PS I only use the big ring on occasional road bits so it wouldn't be a huge loss if this was a more permanent setup - if feasible...
