Daughters Marin 20" needs rear hub greasing, tried to remove the cassette last night but my lock ring tool doesn't fit.

Having looked on CRC I can only see ones the same as what I already have see pic; What am i missing?

pic of hub?

I suspect it's a screw on freehub rather than a cassette based system?

+1 for probably being a screw-on freewheel and not a freehub+cassette.

All my kids' bikes have had screw-on freewheels (up to and including the Trek 24" wheeler). One of my riding buddies has a 7spd screw-on freewheel on his 26er too.
