Mate desperately wants an FS.

A few Banshee crop up in the local free-ads. Some basically spanking new.

Worth a punt for the base model - Radicon, Auriga, etc? Typically around £300 in free-ads which sellers claim are unused / as-new.

Recognise a bit on the porky side, but from what I have read, suspension is actually ok.

Neighbour had an Carrera LRS which looked suspiciously like a Specialized with just the odd slight change.

I'm guessing Banshee may be made by Merida....anyone any ideas?

The basic Banshee isn't very good at all, too many cost-cuts in it. Though the spec varies wildly as they're basically built out of whatever parts they're ordering the most of that year, so some came with Epicons which would be a huge win, some came with XCRs which are alright if you look after them, lots come with Raidons which are totally s**t. Drivetrain, brakes and wheels are alright on the current ones.

Oh, and it weighs 16kg.

Is that the 150mm ish travel FS bike? If so I rode one the other night and was impressed. For under a grand it's great. Proper decent fork and shock. 4-bar rear end, mavic rims, decent parts and it rode well too.

Forget the bike snobs. 🙂

PeterPoddy, there's 3 different models of Banshee, sounds like you're describing the X or XXX. Don't think it's the same frame even.
