So guys, do i lube (and if so what) or fit dry. It's a Easton in a Santa Cruz
I did this (dry fit) with a new Easton post and it seized. Removing it involved a lot of cracking noises and took a lot of the lacquer off the post. Use carbon paste (Pace or similar)
interestingly easton want you to fit it dry .....
i my self would use fibregrip
I'd put some of that carbon paste on it.
I've done it with carbon paste and it also seized!
I just take the post out every few months and it's fine
Dry fit with talc is what I do. No problems.
Carbon manufacturers seem unable to agree on whether they should be greased or dry! ๐

There are a number of articles though, from non-bike arenas, that conclude that a lubricant is a good idea between materials. I would say use carbon paste, and remove the seatpost, clean it and relube every couple of months.
Another vote for talc here. Even Specialized recommend it for their carbon posts. The carbon paste is very gritty and damages the lacquer finish. I've heard about posts siezing in alloy frames, although not experienced it, so perhaps advisable to remove every so often as previously recommended.
I had to cut a Bonty XXX-lite from my Alloy Trek... it had been in there for three years through commuting salt hell so I can blame no-one but myself... I should have realised I was in trouble when it stopped slipping down every ride.
I didn't use any lube - but it was ignoring it that caused me the problems.
