Hi

I have a 2009 Cannondale Prophet

Would like to fit a lightweight chain device that will allow me to keep the three rings up front

Anybody have any good expereinces of one that doesn't foul the front mech shifting?

Thank You

You might struggle a little to find a chain device that will work with 3 rings and a e-type mech however if you drop to a dual ring 36/22 setup you can use a multi fit Shimano top swing mech with a little cutting of the plastic frame size adapter. This frees up the BB to mount a proper chainguide like a e13 DRS on.

A triple and a chain device - you sound like an extremely aggressive rider.

Just reigniting an old topic as it fits my query too...

Failed miserably this morning to fit a Blackspire Stinger chain device to my wife's Cannondale Prophet with an SLX 22/36/bash. The bike is otherwise stock apart from the new BB/chainset, so it has the E-type front mech which is what's causing me a headache.

I'm using one of these chain devices: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=54361 (BB model)

I'm guessing I should've perhaps used this one? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=40530 (BB model)

I'm really just asking if anyone's tried a combination of an e-type front mech, e-type blackspire stinger, and dual-ring/bash set up?

Cheers
Ally

I have an e-type Blackspire Stinger and SLX double/bash on my Prophet. It's fairly straightforward to swap over the bits and fit. It works fine, but a dual specific derailleur would be better.

Use threadlock on the roller bolt and the bolt to the frame.

Thanks torsoinalake. I guess the Stinger replaces part of the mount that currently holds the front mech on? Just been studying the pics of them and coming to that conclusion.

I'd better get one ordered as I've got the wrong one, doh.

Same here Parksie, can't remember ever losing my chain on my Prophet in the 2 years I've had it.
If you're putting them on just to quieten things down, the Cannondale Chainslapper chainstay protector does a good job. I forgot to refit mine before heading off for the Innerleithen Enduro last month, I'd forgotten how noisy the chain rattling against the chainstay was.

I can only report what my wife's told me, but she claims to lose the chain quite often on really bumpy descents. I use Stingers on my full susser and also a hardtail and don't find they impede pedalling in the least, so worth a try for hers IMO.

Oh, and I NEVER question her riding "skills" (never a good idea...) but she knows not to run the chain too loose, i.e. small cog with mech lightly tensioned.

a11y, I've got a Stinger on my hardtail 'cos I was sick of losing the chain but I've never felt the need for one on the Prophet, for some reason the chain just doesn't come off on mine.
