[Closed] Cannock Phase 2 vs Llandegla

I have the choice of riding at either place on Saturday. I've seen the new stuff at Cannock be compared to the likes of Llandegla so I was wondering whether its worth the extra hour and a half (ish) each way to Llandegla or just stick to Cannock for now?

I've never been to Llandegla and haven't been to Wales in years (plus the guys I'd be going with are good company) so that's making it look attractive, but I also have a load of uni work/revision to do so getting in a quality ride at Cannock might be better use of my time?

Guess you just answered your own question there, stay at Cannock.

Despite what you read on here, i actually think Llandegla is really good fun. Its not rocky and gnarly but its still really enjoyable. Its a bit like indoor climbing - not the same as real outdoor climbing but still really enjoyable nonetheless. You just have to think about it a bit differently. Judging by how busy the place gets alot of people also would seem to agree. Those who say its really boring probably have never ridden it in my opinion.

Unless the new section at Cannock is really really good, there is no contest in my mind.

Did Llandegla about 3 weeks ago, did new stuff at Cannock Saturday - Much prefer Cannock, i'd rather go there than Llandegla

just done cannock today
more and better switchback climbing than llandegla
2 or 3 sections easily rival degla for flowing bermy jumpy track
but it is cutting up badly even after only 3 days and there are parts that IMO are too tight, trees to close or need some minor tweaking
there is alot more on offer at degla - skills and pump track etc

No no no, Houns has it all wrong. Deggy is the business, there's nothing worth seeing at Cannock.

Not impressed with the new stuff will avoid from now on,not knarly enough, too many tight berms ,trees to close to the trail.Best ridden on a rigid apollo to make it a challenge, can see why there were so many people not wearing protection on there numbskulls!! dont get me started on the overpriced bacon sandwiches and tasteless coffee.

Go elsewhere

Rich

postie- how tight are the berms corners trees etc.. I was planning to drag the freakwheel over to the popular bit of the chase to have a look, but if it's pointlessly wibbly and a bit easy and poo like much of follow ya dad, I'll stick with the cheeky stuff

if your bars are over 600cm wide avoid cannock you will die (and the permits cost more now)

Cannock is worth a ride and so is Llandindong (not been there for a while myself though).

Regarding some of the other comments there are some very tight sections but to be fair there's only one that I find a squeeze with 710mm bars.

Some of the sections are indeed cutting up but this was expected. A lot of work has been done on final preparation of the trail in the last month and with the current dry spell it means surfacing has gone down dry and not had enough moisture on it before it was trafficked. We were committed to the launch date though and no amount of brashing would have kept the trails closed any longer. Both Chase Trails and Clixbys will be monitoring the situation and carrying out repairs and tweaks over the coming weeks once we are able to see the extent of what is required.

Stu,

am I right in thinking that it's not quite finished. The bit from the back of the golf course driving range through the dips is a bit out of place given the quality of the other stuff and I did see some woodwork on the left.

Yep,

There are a couple of sections still as a work in progress which will be the focus of our building over the next couple of months. Plus there are some other ideas in the pipeline for later this year which have ywet to be started.

Trees to close to trails, tight sqeeze, FFS That all part of the fun.

IMO if your close to cannock then do cannock went to Llandegla from cannock although it was fun It wasn't worth the drive.

Is it possible to just 'ride the Monkey' and get back to the car or is it a case of doing both trails?

Thinking about going down for c~6am one day so it should be quiet.

Rich does it bring you back out at Beaudesert and is it obvious where the trail is from there? I've not been up that way for about 13 years.

Come out of the carpark across the road through the FC barrier and the trail is about 100 metres on the right snakey singletrack climb!

I was really impressed by Phase 2 on Sunday. Plenty of challenge for every level. I don't think I could manage 2 laps though, but my mates Pete & Darren both singlesped it all without having to get off and push once. And Pete's bloody 57, the bastid.

I spent 20 mins thinking about that black bit before going down the red. I guess if I'd gone down it at night I'd have been fine, but I just kept looking at that rock that my head was going to hit. You didn't bring that specially over from Birches valley just for me did you Stu?

Big applause to all involved.

Looks like Cannock would be a good place to take my ten and twelve year old on their hard tails?

They both do fine on the blue at Whinlater
