I am in the process of converting to a tubeless set-up; however, I am a bit concerned that the sealant might knacker my digital pressure gauge.
I use the gauge for my 27.5 plus tyres as I recon that getting the right psi is critical to how they ride. When doing this I use a button on the gauge to release some air whilst the gauge is attached to the valve.
Any ideas on whether sealant is likely to come out and damage it, and how to best avoided it happening?
Turn wheel so that valve is at bottom, i.e. 6 o'clock, leave a minute or so to allow any sealant to drain, use gauge as normal. Not had any problem with either my Topeak or SKS gauges.
I don't think it'll do it much good, it'll gunk things up. I find less splooge comes out if I release air with the valve at the bottom of the wheel, I guess any sealant will fall out/be blown out by the pump then (although I really just do it so I don't end up with a gunked up presta valve I can't release air from later - pressures are set by relatively low resolution pump gauge)
Take the gauge off and let the pressure out as normal.
I've gummed up a track pump guage, although oddly never a stand alone one.
The gauges don't give a live pressure whilst letting them down anyway, because when you press the button the pressure in the gauge falls to near enough zero to let air out of the tyre (if it were equal to the pressure in the tyre, no air would flow through the tyre valve).
Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure I do it at 6 o'clock (whilst watching The Simpsons) ๐
My mates a mechanic for an EWS team, he goes through them like toilet paper.
We chipped in and bought a few of the analogue brass ones from Jenson USA, so far so good.
