[Closed] Can someone tell me how to ride this?

Only bit of a favourite local trail I can't figure out:

Brick built water channel from an old canal, running across the trail at 90°.
Drop in is fine, but only 1 bike length, possibly less, between this and the hop out on the otherside, which is a bit higher.

I always get stuck in the middle, unable to pick the front up and get out the other side from a standstill.

Not tried hopping over the whole thing, never really approached it at speed (mixed use, cheekyish).

Any tips?

pretty shite description.

bunnyhopping one bike length isn't difficult so it depends on the height of the step-up, dig a lip and jumping it will be easy.

Have you tried to wheelie drop it? You dont need to be great at wheelies, just keep your front wheel up long enough to not go in. Drop front wheel on far lip, shift weight forward, pedal.

I'll try and take a picture later. 🙂

Not a jumper, so not had the confidence to try it.
Take off about four or five inches below the landing, if that makes a huge difference.

I'm sure others ride it all the time, but it's getting personal now.

Panic brake hard & late, nose dive into it, hit the far wall square & go OTB. Simple.

What cheese said, mannual (or at least lift the front wheel) and worry about the rear wheel when it comes to it. I'm guessing it's only a few bricks high as you're trying to ride in and out of it?

There's one near me that I know I should be able to do but can't, it's about 3ft wide (and about the same depth so no way to drop in/out) but the run in's a little sketchy (downhill, muddy and a runs parralel to the ditch so needs a 90deg turn at the last moment).

I'm always envious of people who can hop straight over the MX traps (the ones constructed from 2 railway sleepers on their sides about 3-4ft appart).

I've genuinely no idea of the height of the exit - 20 inches or so in my mind, probably a lot less in reality. 😀

If you can't wheelie, just hit it as hard as possible see if the forks will soak it up. That's what I'd do 😉

My unrideable bit is a bit harder to describe with off camber routes and a tree on the exit. Last time I tried it I ended up in the river 🙁

Walk it.

I mean, get off, hold your bike by the bars, wobble over the obsticle, hop back on making sure you miss the first peddle stroke with your right foot, miander along the trail for approx 10mtrs whilst attempting to find the peddles, end up by putting your left foot down again and start the process all over again.

I see this often.

you mean those MX traps that don't stop MXers?

Don't try and 'drop in', instead push the front wheel down into it so you're then ready to pull it up over the lip on the other side. Feels weird at first but if you get the speed right it should be one motion.

TBF if you're struggling to work it out, bikebouy's advice might be best here.

A manual* would be the best way through it but really all you have to do is lift the front wheel as you drop in on the back wheel. If you have enough speed that should get you to the other side.

As always, session the damn thing til you´re bleeding and bored but it becomes second nature. There´s a lot to be said for having another go.

*Disclaimer: I can only manual properly when the planets line up in a specific orbit.

First, don your Axo Pony boots.
Then, get togged up in your finest BeenBag gear.
Top it off with an Etto helmet or a bangin' baseball cap
Remove rear wheel.

Then, simply Switzerland Squeaker the whatsits out of that crazy drop, braw!

First half of the technique I was talking about is shown in the first minute of Jenny's Megavalanche #2 video:

You will then be in the right position to move your body weight backwards to lift the front wheel out.

If you manual in as soon as the back wheel touches down it will catapult your body weight forwards over the front wheel at the wrong moment (when you want to be lifting it out).

definitely need pictures, with something in there for scale. but from the description a bit of speed and a judicious hop sounds feasible. though i get the feeling that if that was an option for OP this thread wouldn't exist...
