I wouldn't mind an edge 200, but I only have a tablet now.
Can I connect to garmin using the nexus or does it have to be via a PC/laptop?
The nexus has a mini USB port.

Thanks

I asked the G 500 and N7 question a while back. Thoughts were its do-able by importing files, since there's no Garmin Uploader software for Android. Touchscreen, ie big hand small map limitations might frustrate. Spent my tablet money on a dropper, so its all speculation!

Media Importer will recognise the garmin as a data source (aka disk drive) but you'd need software to manipulate any files (.gpx etc ) let me do some testing ...

I've just created a route on bikehike.co.uk and transferred it to my 705 via the Nexus 7 - email me - (profile_name at yahoo dot com) for a full explanation. The OTG cable is about 3 quid and he software a similar price

Can you not upload your routes from your Garmin?

Umm can you give me a better clue as to what the email address is. ๐Ÿ˜ณ
I've tried all kinds of ways to address it to you, but it keeps getting bounced back.

Goldigger, I haven't got a garmin, I'm trying to find out if I could use it properly with just my tablet, before I decide to buy one.

1) disconnect the OTG cable from tablet
2) switch on the Garmin & connect it to the OTG cable using standard mini usb cable
3) plug OTG cable into tablet - MEDIA IMPORTER will launch
4) select SOURCE as the EXTERNAL USB media
5) you should now be able to explore the folder structure of the Garmin - tracks will be in the \Garmin\History folder
6) to UPLOAD to web (eg strava, ridewithgps etc ) launch the web browser, login to the site and do an upload from FILE - haven't checked exactly how this looks
7) to DOWNLOAD a GPX route then simply save the route to the tablet (it usually goes in the downloads folder ) then copy it to the \garmin\routes folder - you should then be able to navigate using the route

If the garmin is switched off when you connect it the tablet doesn't recognise it and will just try charging it!

If you email me I'll try to get screen shots & images of the whole process

btw - some software will only allow the device on the OTG cable to be READONLY - you need the PAID version of MEDIA IMPORTER ( some other s/w needs the tablet to be rooted which isn't desirable )

if your tablet has a micro SD card slot then you might be able to do it via that route instead ( or put the sd card in a card reader on OTG )

Hope this helps

Mark
