I would like to “tidy up” a carbon frame. Can they be respirated and if so any recommendations in the Bristol’ish area?

Thanks

Argos Cycles would be the first place I would try. Always seem to be highly recommended and Bristol based. They do carbon frames too.

Can they be respirated

?? I assume you mean "resprayed"?

Yes, of course. Frame prep is pretty critical but as you're Bristol area, look no further than Argos Racing Cycles:

They do say to contact them before sending in carbon frames though. I've had one steel and one aluminium frame resprayed by them, top notch work and not too expensive.

You can of course go properly custom and artisan - look up Fat Creations on Instagram for example. Much more £ but completely custom.

Yes, JMJ designs in Truro have done 2 Carbon frames and a Carbon helmet for me, even preserving the manufacturer warranty on the frames.

I’ve heard some bad things about Argos, I’d give them a swerve.

Try Josh at Bristol Bicycle Restorations - he did me a custom metal flake spray job on my Marino and it’s pretty nice.

He does carbon yes - but you can’t dip or blast old paint off with carbon so he charges a bit more to hand prep it ready for painting.

They have an Instagram - but I’m failing to link it so the above website is his.

+1 for Bristol Bicycle Restorations. They’ve done a few bikes for friends and the work has been very good.

Some of those pictures are sweet!

Even without the beautiful evidence above I’d have said ‘yes’. After all, most carbon bikes are painted aren’t they?

An alternative might be a colored wrap, like a car. Fairly sure that there have been examples on here.

Frame prep is pretty critical

As frame prep is also critical on metal tubed frames if you want the paint to last longer than a couple of rides (from experience of my shoddy workmanship), so curious if there's something additional to a carbon frame to consider.

Not that I've got a carbon frame I'm intending to paint, just wondering....

I've resprayed carbon forks with spray.bike rattle cans and they haven't dissolved and the paint has stayed on 2 years so far so no problem with a frame

Argos renovated and resprayed my Shorter steel TT bike recently (it’s on their insta feed). Did a fantastic job and I’d definitely use them again. In fact I will get my Giant Defy resprayed next year to freshen up its design and I love the bike so much.
