Obviously Dalby's on the list, and some fish and chips by the seaside.
Any recommendations for good, quietish campsites? We'd be tenting, 4 days in May. Maybe a nice meal one day, pubs will be gone into at intervals, so if there are any we should seek out, let me know
Cheers!
Hooks House Farm, by Robin Hood's Bay (in the cool camping guide if you've got it). Walkable into the town for food/drinks/walks along the beach/random funky little place wanderings, and great mountain biking from the doorstep. For an 'rest' type day you can cycle the old railway line north along the coast to Whitby too.
I'll also do the 'why do a trail centre when there's loads of natural stuff' thing and suggest picking up the vertebrae guide to the north yorks, as there's loads of good stuff around, a lot of which you could do from that campsite without needing to drive.
Does the ?Red Lion at Blakey Rigg still have camping? It's central, does food, easy drive to many villages, cycling from the door.
Lion inn on Blakey ridge does camping and B and B. Great food massive portions and good biking
They don't really advertise it as such, it's more for folk walking the coast to coast, so I doubt you could turn up and expect to stay a few days. There is a campsite down in Rosedale which is quite nice during off-peak periods, but gets a bit hectic in school holiday times.
Runswick Bay has a nice little campsite, its a quiet village on the coast north of Whitby. Two good pubs in the village. 30 minutes away from Guisborough Woods, 45 to Dalby. There are also campsites at Hinderwell (Serenity) and Staithes too which are just a couple more miles up the road.
I was gonna say The Lion on Blakey Ridge. It's the 1st place I got properly pissed at, aged 18. East Yorkshire 2 Day Trial 1994 ish.
Didn't do too well on the 2nd day. ๐ก
The Lion is popular because there's nothing near it for miles and it's a crossing point for a few big renowned walks. You're right on top of the Moors there too, there's not much around. Not saying it's bad, just saying.
I don't know campsites as I generally did day-trips there as a kid, but I'd be tempted to start on the western side (Osmotherley/ Cod Beck) skirt your way across the top (Carlton Bank (DH trails there), Clay Bank, Great Broughton, The Wainstones, Roseberry Topping, Great Ayton) then into Danby/ Castleton and over to Robin Hood's Bay.
This misses out the middle and classic places like Helmsley, Pickering, Goathland, etc. though and is far from Dalby.
I ride through this one occasionally (there's bridleway runs through it). Always thought it'd be nice to stay there if I didn't live so close! Seems a really nice quiet site. About halfway between Dalby and the sea. You can ride offroad from the site into Wykeham Forest (and from there into Dalby if you fancied a big loop)

You could do a really nice ride out to the Anvil at Sawdon from there too if you wanted fancy pub food ๐
Ah! Cheers all, thought this had died!
Will sic the internet on these and see what's up. Cheers again.
Any more ideas out there?
