[Closed] camping at/near Peebles

We're planning a week up in the Scottish borders for some of the 7 Stanes, plus the hill top drovers trails. We're hoping to stay in Peebles - there appear to be two camping sites in Peebles and one down the road in Innerleithin. Does anyone have anyone have opinions on these or are there other places that are better for camping in the area?

thanks in advance for any advice

one in inners is in a rather dodgy looking housing estate (probably fine but ive never liked the look of it )

the one "just" on the edge of peebles on the road to edinburgh is nice but the camping area isnt exactly FLAT

no idea where the other one in peebles

Rosetta is the best campsite in the area.

Yup. Rosetta is great, and walking distance into Peebles for a few ales on an evening.

Aha! Another chance to rant about Crossburn Caravan Park! Great site, great toilets, but totally ruined by one or two of the people who work there ๐Ÿ™ We've been several years in a row, never particularly friendly or helpful, they're the type of people who make a point of watching you suspiciously when you come to pick up your ice packs from the ice cream freezer in the shop.

Our last visit will be the last. The bloke who booked us in had a bad attitude from the start, claiming we'd arrived a day early. (even though we'd phoned to check the arrival date) Thought he was going to turn us away, I had to ask if he could fit us in for the extra night, he didn't offer. Once we got on site it was less than a third full anyway.

Later in the week torrential rain was forecast, and as we were pitched right by a river we asked in the shop if our pitch was likely to flood. The answer given was 'probably', the bloke couldn't give a s**t.

We drove round to Rosetta to see if we could move, the bloke there was great, said yes we could come round anytime, and also told us the river through Crossburn rarely floods outside of winter so nothing to worry about. Seeing as we had already paid for the whole week we ended up staying put, but never again ๐Ÿ™

Strangely enough he wasn't in the shop when we left, so I had to turn my rant into some feedback for his colleague to pass on.

Rosetta also has a bar and seems to be full of bikers from what we saw when we drove round ๐Ÿ™‚

Rosetta is very good. Decent showers, pool table, bar upstairs. They do some good food in the bar as well. The people are very friendly too.

and another for rosetta. everything you need and while the camping area is on a bit of a slope, its not been a problem in my experience. and yeah, full of bikers!
