Anyone running Campagnolo on a monster cross bike?? Any experiences

Wondering if a 10 speed shimano block would work with Campy levers and mechs.

Can someone explain to me what monster cross is? How is the bike different to a cx bike?

monster cross is usually an mtb with drops ... or a cross bike with mega-fat tyres

Disk brakes, fatter wheels, stronger, more relaxed geometry

No.

Doubtless somebody will be on shortly to tell you they have it working, but the spacing is different, so setup is always going to be tricky, and it will go out of adjustment easily.

There are ways to bodge it to work though http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=3946

You'll need a £30 camming device for the gear cable from St John Street Cycles to be able to run shimano cassette with campag levers

I have some Ambrosio 10 speed cassettes, which are Campag spaced and Shimano splined. They work well. I have a nearly new 12-25 that I'm happy to sell if it's of use.

Hi mate, I'm running 10 speed campy ergonomics shifters on an 8 speed cassette on my monstercross- no problems what so ever.Shifting spacings are the same, and 8 speed is fine after all!

10 speed campag shifters with 9 speed shimano everything else works perfectly using the hubbub method.

I'd say a monster cross is a 29er frame, fat tyres, drop bars, and a big ring up front. Bonus marks for properly setup cantis instead of disks.

My Cotic X runs a complete Campag transmission except for the cassette. Thats a 10 speed 105 thingy. Getting a Campag ready disc hub proved awkward. I could have gone for something like an Ambrosio cassette, ie Campag spacings and Shimano splines but at the time the size I needed wasn't about and the new bike was calling.
Anyway I find it works fine. The main limitation might be finding a rear mech to cope with a wide range of gears. Mine is happy with a 28/38/48 triple and a 12 to 25 cassette. You might need a touring rear mech for mtb type gears or you culd go Shimergo. Try the CTC forum for that.

Here's a thought. Could I enter this bike into the Three Peak's Cyclocross race?

by the looks of it, the front tyre would be wider than allowed.

probably not as it is an MTB frame. or rather for the rules it appears to be a mtb frame not cross.
