Trying to work out which CamelBak I want and wondered what is actually *meant* by this spiel on the CamelBak site re: the Mule...
"Quick access overflow storage with dual compression straps"
Does this "overflow storage" allow storage of things like knee/elbow pads? Can't tell from the stock promo photos.
If not which model would people recommend for this kind of external storage? I've used the Havoc before think that's a bit big for my needs. Currently have a Blowfish that I am going pass onto the wife, although find that to be a great pack for what it is.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom.
Start by thinking how much water you may want to carry. Mule - 3 litres, plenty, and plenty of stowage for an all day ride. The smaller one's obviously carry less water/gear. Go for the Mule, not too big for short rides but adequate for long rides - or another brand of similar capacity.
The Blowfish is 3 litres so I am fine with that water capacity. It's the external storage I am mostly interested in at the moment, hence asking whether the Mule is any good for this...
+1 for the Mule. If you can't fit your pads in the external section you can just clip them to the outside. It's big enough for mine, though.
So there IS an external section then...?
Yeah - behind the zippered front pocket there's a mesh-enclosed section that you can close against the main compartment with a plastic buckle on each side. (Hope that makes sense).
Plenty of room in my mule, even enough for a helmet (not a full face). And its not too big, I've even used it for xc racing.
Great stuff, 1 x Mule it is then! Thanks chaps.
[edit]Only question now is... which colour!?[/edit] 😉

I use a TNF hammerhead they are better than camelbak's and cotwolds are selling the blue one for £30 half price in the sale at the mo
Thanks for the heads up on that Erny, ordered...
