Hi,

I've asked this in another post, sorry for duplication, but I wanted this specific request to be noticed by owners of either of these bikes.

Can people who have these steads do a we bitty measuring for me please? I'd like to know how much space there is in the seat and chain stays for fat tyres and also if there are ways to fit guards and racks to them.

Thanks and sorry again for any duplication!

I've got an older steel Muirwoods, and you could get a reasonably fat tyre in there, something like a 2.1 easily. I'm running 1.75s, and there's loads of space.

As an 'urban' type frame, it has eyelets for racks and mudguards.

I've got a Haro running 2.2 Race Kings, you could go a touch bigger but not a vast amount. No rack or guard mounts.

I know it doesn't sound like it'll quite fit the bill but it is a cracking frame. It'd make a nice 1/2 fat project.

elfin, cheers for that, is yours a 29 er? any chance of stuffing a ruler in there to see what the clearances are?

still, fancy a Mary but really need rack and guards for the commute - bit of a downer that.

You could always use an Old Man Mountain rack ... don't need mounts. Think Carradice sell them over here.

No mine's a 26" version. They don't do them any more. I've got the very last steel Muirwoods frame imported to the UK. The new 26" ones are alu. I think the 29"/700c ones are steel. Shame they've replaced the 26" with an alu frame; the steel frame makes a lovely bike.

Might be worth a call to ATB Sales or a Marin dealer to ask them to measure for you.
