Me and my boy are going to do the Whitehaven to Tynemouth coast to coast at half term.

I'm looking for advise as to a pleasant B+B to stay in the Alston Nenthead area. Needs to be near to somewhere to get an evening meal.

No bunkhouses or campsites as we're aiming to travel light.

Ta Rich.

We stayed here http://nenthall.jpchotelsandleisure.co.uk/ which I think had 2 options for dinner, the pub and a more formal restaurant. Quite smart I remember! And I think our bikes went into a secure store somewhere...

Alston is a good place - at the foot of a 7 mile descent from Hartside pass ๐Ÿ™‚

We stayed at Lowbyer Manor which was nice, with a secure lockup.

We walked up the road to Alston House for an excellent evening meal.

Brilliant hill climb up the cobbled high street to start the next day of riding.

I've stayed at Alston House, the food was great and the bed was the softest thing I've ever slept in, a bit like falling asleep in a very soft thing indeed.

Recommended.

Alston is the biggest town you'll find in that vicinity. Followed by Nenthead, then Garrigil. Never stopped in any of them, but Garrigil is pretty tiny. One pub type of place. Nenthead isn't much bigger. If any.

Alston campsite is 'interesting', especially the showers.
