So I'm in the market for a new fork, 160mm 36mm stanchions, having looked around theres only a couple of options really and its from the usual suppliers BUT one is slightly more expensive and supplies a fork in a nice manufacturers box and the other sends it out in a plastic bag. Question is is there any difference in the quality of the fork ?

In my experience (two forks one in a bag one in a box, both reba rl's one for a 29er and one for a 26er) the only difference is that the boxed one included a manual a complete seal kit and a shock pump. While the bagged one was, well in a bag in an own brand box. No difference in quality as far as I can see. So is the price difference equivalent to a shock pump and a complete seal kit? Hope that's some help.

OEM models (which the unboxed probably is) often have lower spec parts in them, for instance my Pikes that came with the bike have a steel steerer whereas the after market model has an aluminium one.

you could buy legit pikes with steel steerers, 426 I think.
I do recall that some Specialized bikes had Pikes with a much worse damper (basically a long travel tora) but I've not seen them for ages.

You may have issues with warranty on O.E items, depending on brand and supplier.
So it may take longer for any faults to be rectified as the unit will have t go back to the supplier and then distributor/warrannty centre as opposed to being able to be sent straight to the them.

Have also seen some lwer grade internals in O.E stuff which just falls to bits unlike the offical Motion control units which I found a bit odd.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, the OEM thing was what I was thinking about, had heard that the internals could differ but wasn't sure.

Thanks LOCO, just shows what a minefield it can be !!
