I have bought a Genesis IO frame and now looking at building up the rest of the components. Would be interested in any views of whether I can improve the build on a budget, or errors I have made. My thoughts so far are as follows:

Buy HT11 XT Chainset (remove rings and use on geared bike).
Use a Surly Steel Chainring on the front
Shimano xt 775 wheels or Hope Hoops (Any views?)
Use a Spacer kit on the rear hub.
Surly Singlespeed Cog 3/32
KMC 3/32 Single Speed Chain
Surly chaintug
forks, stem, seatpost, brakes and bars already have.

Any tips on a better build within budget would be much appreciated. I have gone for a normal wheel rather than a singlespeed specific to ease chainline and can use on my geared bike. Is that the best approach? Also will at HT11 Bottome bracket and xt chainset be ok?

Thanks

sounds perfect. no problems with the wheels at all. chainset will be fine; get the frame faced though.

I would swap the surly cog and chainring for the on one equivelents.

too many people have folded their surly chainrings and ime the one one cogs last a lot longer; it'll proably only save you a tenner though.

HTH
