[Closed] Building a 150mm Hope rear wheel

Advice please. My new frame needs a 150mm x 12mm rear wheel. I was thinking about buying the parts and getting someone to build the wheel.

Might sound like a dumb question but is this the right hub:

Do I then use these QR's:

or do I need a special one?

Thanks

Presumably your frame came with the through axle? It'll be much fatter than a QR. Like this:

Yes thats the right hub & no, thats the wrong QR.

You need a 12x150 axle. Normally bolted, unless you buy a rear Maxle - which would be a waste of money as they are crap on DH bikes.

Thinking 36h for strength. No reason not to is there?

A good wheelbuild with 32 will be stronger than a poor with 36.

Having said that, a good wheelbuild with 36 will top them both.

Wouldn't bother with a 36H, 32 will be fine. Cheaper & lighter too!

32 might also be easier to get spare rims for in the future.

Easier to get the rim you want in 32h, (?better resale value as well?) and if you buy the spokes from crc too they supply 36 so you get a few spares.

I'd say you might as well go for a 36h. It _will_ be stronger if it's properly built. The weight difference (of four spokes!) will be negligible, and it's not like they're some peculiar boutique size - most decent rims and hubs are available in 36h.

DO get double butted spokes. Don't skimp here - good quality spokes (I prefer Sapims but lots of people on here are DT fans) make a huge difference to wheels and plain gauge spokes will NOT build a stronger wheel. Look at Sapim Force if you're going to abuse the wheel, they're 2.3mm at the elbow, 1.8 through the length and 2.0 at the thread. Excellent spokes.

P.S. drop me an email (pete at ratracecycles dot com) if you want advice or a quote.
