Can it be done with new kit?
Needs an air fork too.

Unlikely with a 140mm bolt through air fork (which is what the frame is crying out for) - that'll take up half your budget before you start.

Think you might have to compromise on the fork.Either scour the classifieds, for some cheap Revs or live with the weight of a Tora.
Best vfm groupset is probably the £400 SLX deal at Merlin.
I

a

s website for example..........
That of course is the other option, find a bargain, well specced donor bike, and sell the frame.

Anyone know where I can get a Genesis IO or IOID frame? Silver looks cool:

Ok then it might work out slightly over with finishing kit but here goes.

Frame £260
Cheap 130mm forks £190
Expensive 140mm forks £300
Groupset and wheels £342 with extra discount

So thats bhe bones of the build with the expensive 140mm forks I make it £902 and with the cheap 130mm forks £792. I reckon you could easily get tires tubes bars stem post saddle headset and grips for under £100 if you shopped wisely.

Oh and outer cable because the shifters should come with inner.

You'll be very lucky for a grand unless you fit budget end components.

My Handjob stands me at about £1200, with mid-range drive train, but nice fork etc

Is it for the cycle to work scheme?

If so, buy it with something like an SLX groupset and decent wheels like pro2's on a rim of your choice, but buy a cheap rigid fork for it.

Sell the rigid and buy some 2nd hand pikes off here with your own wonga.

Personally, I bet you can build a decent hardtail for less than alot less than a grand. I'd go for Rev's and use as much as my old kit as possible then source the rest from here.

if ti's c2w then do what davidtaylforth said and uprgade the fork after. or, singlespeed it then upgarde to gears after with your own money

if it's all your own money, that frame really deserves a strong fork, so maybe stretch the budget a little or save a bit til you can have teh bike you want rather than the bike you can afford now!

I'd buy one of the £880 giant reign deals from pauls cycles HERE then sell the reign frame and buy what you want.

If you are going down Paule's route then a Orange P7 Pro- bet you could find one for within +£200 of your budget as well.

Put your money into the fork, it can be done. Singlespeeding it will save a bunch of money.

Both are good forks, I've got a pair of each. You can get Revs cheaper.

If you're going to singlespeed a Blue Pig I'd use a Blackspire Stinger, bb mounted chain tensioner.

If i decide to get one i shall be swapping all the bits over from my current bike. Even if i bought all the bits new i doubt it would be over a grand. most people off here would probably scoff at some of the parts but they work.

I can't really see how singlespeeding it will save a bunch of money, especially at that price point. Lose a pair of shifters, couple of chainrings and cassette, f+r derrailleurs and cables- need to buy a tensioner, spacers, short chainring bolts, rear sprocket. If you bought a groupset and flogged the spare stuff you might save £50 or so- still, that could be the difference between getting a quality fork or a pogo stick.

Personally, I'd keep and eye on ebay and here for unused stuff stripped off builds, or maybe strip a bike yourself- trouble then though is a lot of the time you end up with seatposts that don't fit, crap wheels, stems the wrong length, cut cable outers etc, so you still need to source those again....

I got a some Rock Shox Revelation 426 Maxle Lite Air U Turn 110-140mm 2009 = £353.74 from Cycle Sports for my Ragley build.

Don’t think your going to get better for cheaper.
