I've had enough of resting it, 12 weeks is more than enough for me to have off the bike but its starting to get the better of me.
Injury came about whilst playing Hockey back in September, nothing mega serious, I jumped out the way of another player while chasing back and landed quite heavily on a straight leg. Loud crack and down i went.
Thought nothing of it as i was walking within a day but have had nothing but pain since.
Went to see Gp who kindly referred me for an MRI. Found out last week that i've got badly bruised Tib/Fib/Femur along with what looks like repeated long term cartlidge issues. The specialist I saw said they cant do anything for me apart from refer me to another specialist in Oswestry. Apparently the guys in Oswestry are really good at this sort of injury and might be able to help, but did stress its only a might.

So what can I do, I've tried riding but after less than a mile its causing shooting pains up the side of my thigh along with a dull ache on the knee itself. Push it further than this and the pain gets that bad that my knee effectively goes numb. Which is ok for actually riding until we get to a decent hill and it starts throbbing which will then last for days afterwards. I'm at a loss with what i should do. I've had injuries before and always managed to exercise in some way or another but this is starting to get me down and missing out on some of the winter night rides really does depress me.

Surely someone in the Singletrack massive can share some tips or experience with me on this kind of injury. I was pretty much in the best shape i've been since about 16/17 and was looking forward to a good winter trainign regime to get me faster for next year(i dont race but faster is always better) HELP!!!!

From the limited experience I've had of treating patients (both with distal radius boney oedema after falling onto an out stretched hand) there is very little you can do. Fluid inside bone can take a very long time to be re-absorbed by your body and the cases I saw took up to 18 months to 2 years to be fully asymptomatic.
Clearly timescales can vary with the severity of the injury but rest and gentle exercise as pain allows is all you can do in terms of rehabilitating after bruised bone.

Injury sucks. Hopefully you'll be back riding by the summer.

Funny you say hockey, four months ago had a hockey ball/stick catch my leg just above my pad, full on, I don't play for our 1st team so expect a few hay makers at my level ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, my leg looked like I had two knee caps on one leg & had a weird cracking noise when I tried to play on, not a good idea!

Had shoting pains for about a month if I tried to twist my leg, but apart from that had no issues cycling on it.

Our Doc did not seem that bothered and said it should settle down in a couple of months.

Still have a lump the size of half a golf ball but it is getting smaller & the shooting pain has gone when I twist.

Wooden sticks never caused this much dammage to me in the past, carbon sticks do seeem to be able to inflict more pain!
