It had to happen... After all the celebration of finally overtaking someone the other day on my commute, I broke the rear axle on my commuter bike (20+ year old Raleigh Pursuit) and also now have a slight wobble in the rear wheel (even taking into account the play from the bearings).
Now, it's only a 5 speed rear wheel, and at 26" is a standard thing to get hold of, so I should really just replace it from the stock at the LBS or the local Halfrods, but should I be sneaky and use this as an excuse to get either another 20 quid eBay special or *sharp intake of breath* a new road bike?
It does have other stuff wrong with it by the way, not just the rear wheel.
new wheel with an alloy rim = £30 or so IIRC?
Shirley a £20 ebay special will be a wreck...and if you want a new road bike...impossible to advise without knowing about the Pursuit.
It's a bit of a state to be honest. Winter was not kind to it and neither was last year.
I'm even having a hard time finding the spec on it so that I can match wheels. Some parts of the internet claim that the wheels are 27", some 700c, but I swear I bought it as a 26" wheeled bike.
Ah well... I guess we shall have to see what I can find cheap.
