Daughter Seadog is going to be spending more time cycling about a small city in the Fens for the next 4 years doing more clever learning of stuff.
She’s gotten away with no bike related trouble for the last 4 years (not counting two nicked bikes), but I fear it’s only a matter of time.
What’s the considered opinion on the best membership to take out?
BC Commute is a bit cheaper than the Cycling UK. Both seem to offer broadly similar cover.
???
They both have cover formcommutimg as far as I’m aware. I went British Cycling as that was the one I first became aware of - but luckily haven’t needed to use the legal cover bit so far. My employer also sponsors them - although that didn’t get me any discount at the time - need to look into it and see if I can wangle something at the next renewal.
What's she studying in Ely?
Cycling UK are more active in general support of cycling as opposed to racing so they get my money.
Dont believe there is any real difference in the insurance cover.
Is it worth considering that C UK spend the money on campaigning and influencing policy while BC are more focused on sport?
I don't mind paying a few quid more to C UK for that reason.
I like the cycling UK organisation over BC. I was a former long time 20 year+ BC member but it’s an organisation I’d prefer not to give any more money to.
@alex... it’s the other city. It’s a Phd in earthquakes and rocks and stuff.
Seems like Cycling UK is more favoured.
I signed uo with British Cycling last year, but I'm going to switch to Cycling UK at renewal time.
Most of the info I get from British Cycling is about racing - discounts to race meets, etc - which doesn't rally interest me. I'm more interested in campaigning for cyclist rights/safety.
I chose BC as they were a little cheaper, before thinking about what they represented.
I thought so, just having a little fun.
Another one who went Cycling UK for their campaigning reasons - see if family membership covers her as a student, might be better for all of you? Also might be an NUS scheme somewhere.
Currently using Cycling UK's solicitors, Slater and Gordon, for my injury claim, and I'm not impressed yet, simply from a customer service point.
BC offer a £24 discount to HSBC account holders which may swade you.
Cycling UK for me. As has been said above, they do more for the type of cycling I'm interested in.
