Brifter’s are a relatively new concept to me, even newer are brifters with trim.

I have a 2x11 105 mechanical set up.

Out riding yesterday, enjoying a tailwind, I was enjoying the last the bottom three sprockets of the cassette, or at least I was trying too.

With the front shifter fully trimmed(?) I was getting some rub on the outside plate of the front mech. If I put tension on the front shifter (as if trying to shift up/trim up again) that bought me some enjoyment but soon the tailwind passed and I needed to shift back up the cassette.

I don’t have an inline barrel adjuster for that mech/shifter, would adding one likely cure the issue or am I missing something even more obvious?

(I hate the modern front mechs and their stupid cable routing so hopefully don’t need to add a barrel adjuster….)

Has the front brifter got the trim, mini shift between the two many positions, option?  Or is it two position only?

A barrel adjuster is for fine alignment, roads or remove tension when setting up.

It’s got four positions.

There are a pain to the uninitiated in comparison to earlier Shimano models - check out YouTube for detailed instructions. They do need significantly more cable tension to work, particularly the outer trim.

Thanks @dovebiker … time to learn by the sounds of it … a reminder as to why I like SS’ing so much 😄

I watched (a great, very informative) YouTube video, broke out the 2mm Allen key and I think I did a “thing”. Quick driveway test suggests that “thing” was positive so now to find a tailwind to try it out!

Thank you folks ☺️

Is 11s 105 the same as 12s? You don't tension that inline, you tension it by adjusting a screw under the plastic cover on the mech until two marks align on the parallelogram linkage (and then tweek it slightly to fine tune).

If you can't find the trim clicks in the big ring, check the limit screw isn't too tight (or way too much cable tension), you could be in the trim position but unable to shift into the fully out position?

Newer style Shimano front mechs felt like witchcraft to me until I actually paid attention to a couple of walk through videos. Now they seem vastly superior to what went before. Tiny allen key ftw.
