Thinking of doing Brecon Gap ride tomorrow taking the higher route above Brinrore tramroad (the one that comes out by the outdoor pursuit centre, not the shorter lower fireroad route that follows the reservoir from Talybont).
Anyone know what the conditions are like? I've heard that there could be ice. Is it rideable? Anyone done it recently.
I'll be travelling from Swansea and don't want a wasted journey but not bothered by a bit of snow that's passable with a bit of mincing.
Any feedback appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Friends up there Easter weekend.
Seen pictures.
Ice and snow but good fun.
It is riding well, top section across to the Dolygaer descent is nice and firm interspersed with snow filled sections, quite easy to skirt around them or have a go blasting through as you feel fit (you may see a few sets of my tracks up there, including an attempt at a forward roll into a drift!). The Dolygaer descent itself is icy in places but rocky enough to ride well. I didn't go over the gap but I would assume it is reasonable judging by the snow/ice level.
Enjoy, should be a nice day for it.
Thanks thefaller and Neilc1881. Sounds as if it's very good. I think I'll go ahead.
Anyone been over the Gap itself? How's the descent?
My main concern was having to push the bike on sheet ice but sounds as if that's not an issue.
The first 100m on the Breacon side may be bit dodgey as it doesn't get much sun this time of year, and feeling sub zero for a few weeks with the wind, but well do able
