[Closed] Brechfa ride Saturday 7th October

After the cancelled ride last week, a new date has been set, this time on a Saturday.

Middleagedmadness will be dropping off the scooter on Saturday 7th October at around 10.30, meaning we will be at Brechfa at around 11.30am-12.00pm.

Hopefully it being on a Saturday will mean more people can join in. And more people can then have a go at me for being too slow and shouting at me to MTFU and pedal harder ๐Ÿ˜€

So again, who is up for it?

Can someone please buy Ambrose a hearty slice of cake after the ride?

Good question, which route are we doing?

I had thought of possibly Cwm Rhaeadr but might be a bit far to travel after the distance Middleagedmadness is already doing. Never done this trail but always wanted to.

CFH, seen the other thread. Cake is on me ๐Ÿ˜€

Cwm Rhaeadr is fantastic. It is like a little bit of Les Gets secret trails tucked away in Wales, there for everyone to find if they want to. It is stunningly fantastic. So good in fact that it even has a climb on the descent. I really dislike uphill bits at trail centers but this one I can tolerate because it leads onto so much wonderfulness. If we can make it that we meet at Cwm Rhaeadr we really should do it. It is great. I mean, properly, wonderfully, amazingly great.

Just texted gnusmas ,there's only 6 miles in the travel distance coming from Wolverhampton so anywhere different from the chase is good for me

I could do with using the Whyte a bit more so may be up for some of this..

I've only ridden there once from what i assume is the main car park, the one with the loop along side the car-park etc....

Slight change of plan.

Now going to Cwm Rhaeadr. Still Saturday 7th October and the time will be probably around 12.00pm.

Myself, Middleagedmadness, Ambrose and Toofarwest going so far.

Anyone else coming out to play?

I'm elsewhere that weekend, but good trail choice, particularly if you haven't been out so much. Short loop so not a lot of need to carry a bag, I've punctured at the furthest point and the walk back wasn't so bad. Exciting enough to repeat without boredom.

Room for a fat lad at the back? (subject to my wife not working that day).

What's the format - laps? Cwm Rhaeadr as I recall is only about 5 miles long.

P-jay I think there might be some competition for the title of fat lad at the back

Another contender here for fat lad at the back ๐Ÿ˜†

I think i will need to know what bikes you have so we know who you are when we get there.

Or we will all have to wear comedy outfits.

Ok so ,my young fella(12) has decided he fancies a road trip too , so I will definitely be at the back as going down he's way faster than me but isn't to keen on the ups so I will have to stay with him , but the bribes of cake a fizzy drinks does have a motivational effect on him , look forward to meeting you all (oh and excuse my accent I sound like a pikey ,cross between Dublin and black country the young fella will translate if needed)

I'm hoping to be there. I know gnusmas and hopefully will recognise Ambrose (It's been a while since we did the ride from Ammanford!)

I'll probably be on the bike coloured like a fruit salad!

(CR is much better than Brechfa, btw, and i's ages since I last rode there.)

Should we bring cake? ๐Ÿ˜†

Looks like we have a competition for the back, so far 3 fat lads and a fat ol gal ๐Ÿ˜†

I call dibs!

Me and my stiffee are looking forward to meeting you all. Joking aside, this will be my first proper ride in about 4 years and i am really looking forward to it. Hopefully will be a really fun blast!

Hi all, we live fairly local and have ridden Cwm Rhaeadr a fair bit...Awesome little loop... If there's room in the car park we'd like to join you if that's ok...?
Cheers

Wow!

So here we go...

I'll be on a bronze (ooooh, get me!!) FS. I'll be driving a blue Berlingo.

Pete, long time no see! Yes, it is the trail just north of Cilycwm.
IdleJon, I look like I did last time, just a bit older and on a mountainbike not a road bike. I will probably be in a Mynydd Du MTB top, like Craig sometimes wears. Black, red, white.

Deviant, Nick and Tara, come and join in the fun. I'm driving up from Ammanford. Does anyone need a lift?

For those that don't know Cwm Rhaeadr, it's just a car park and a short 7km trail. Goes up the hill and back down in a very entertaining way.

But, the relevant part of this post is that there are no facilities there at all, so bring everything you need. (I don't remember there being any toilets but could be wrong.) The village doesn't have a shop either, as far as I know.

Thanks for the info Jon, i didn't know as i have never been there.

So what you are saying basically is, we are all meeting in a secluded car park to go off the beaten track for some extreme dogging?

I mentioned to Ambrose and have already discussed with Middleagedmadness about possibly having post ride cake in a nearby cafe? Assuming there is somewhere accessible and safe (lots of bikes) close to the trail?

As mentioned by Ambrose, anyone is welcome.

Where are you coming from weeksy? Cwm Rhaeadr is easier to get to from the M4 than Brechfa.

Loads of good pubs near-by. Llandovery is 15 mins away and has even more pubs, cafes, restaurants etc.

Tywi Bridge Inn just north of the trails, on the road to Rhandirmwyn if there are only a few of us, Neuadd Fawr (in Cilycwm) if there are a few more. Otherwise, Llandovery is where it is at.

Sounds like it should be a cracking day.
We ride all over the place...Brechfa,Afan,FoD,BPW,Nant yr Arian, the Gower,The Gap..etc..etc . It's mostly only the two of us, which I'm not complaining about (it's great having a partner that's as into riding as much as me), but it's always more fun in a group...

Would love to ride with you all, but it really is hours away.

I'm quite tempted to join you all if that's ok. Quite fancy a few laps, may bring a hound to join in with the aforementioned dogging. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Not long to go now ๐Ÿ˜€

After 5 years or so of no proper riding, properly excited and strangely a bit nervous too?

I knew there was something i had to do ๐Ÿ™‚

Just got to swap my tyres over and i am good to go.

And put pedals on.
And trim and crimp the rear cable.
And dig out my camelbak.
Oh yeah, and my shoes.
Suppose my jacket would be a good idea too.
And haribo, can't forget the haribo.

You have seen the weather forecast too! Things seem to be improving though.

And dig out my camelbak.

A five year old Camelbak? ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Just read this, already done it ๐Ÿ™‚

You wouldn't be touring for long, Carmarthen is not that big. But there is an outdoor velodrome if you do get bored.

Just got back from Cwm Rhaeadr.

What a place, what a ride.

Thanks to Middleagedmadness for the lift up and thanks to Toofarwest for the lift back.

Thankyou to everyone that turned up, it really blew my mind to see so many people there. I didn't get to meet everyone so apologies if i didn't get round to you, slightly overwhelmed by it all.

Was good to be riding with a great bunch of people. Would love to do it again at some point. Will definitely need to get fitter for that one though.
