[Closed] Brand X Ascend - anyone got one?

My Reverb is buggered (>30mm sag) and as it came with a second hand bike is out of warranty. While a full service might fix it, it would still be an old post with a poor reliability record.

I've looked at the X-Fusion Manic as a potential replacement, but they're still not available anywhere. I've just come across the Brand X Ascend though (£110 from Wiggle) that seems like both good value and has almost overwhelming positive customer reviews on there and CRC.

Has anyone got any experience with them/got one? Is there any catch at that price? (120mm drop and internal routing suit my bike). The two year warranty is rather appealing at the moment.

I and quite a few others have them on here I believe.

Not used mine enough to comment on reliability.

That said, I've yet to read of any problems with them.

Many have been using them through the Winter by now so in theory we should be hearing of failures by now.

I can tell you that the actual lever is nice to use. The internals are a sealed unit hence not serviceable. Though it's a very simple internal mechanism compared to a reverb for instance so less to go wrong anyway.

I also prefer cable actuation, hydraulic pipe seems over kill to me. Brakes I get it, but for simple action of a "switch" it seems over complex. (
Oh, the supplied cable can be a little short on some frames by the way.)

For £110 and a 2 year warranty it's a pretty good purchase I think.

I've also recently got one, very early days (2 rides plus messing about in the cul dear sac with the kids) but it seems well made, works better than the etens i had before and the thumb paddle is great.

I've used one extensively for the last six months. Very pleased with the action. Slight bit of play (no more than a KS CRUXi) when compared to my Thomson but it's a third of the price! Lever nicer than the Thomson.

Can't go wrong with a 2 year warranty either!
