got the chance of a brand new ex8 in the black for about 1700 or a second hand 6 month old ex9 for 1400. what would you guys do. bearing in mind the 9 would give 15mm bolt through but there might be warranty issues.

Do you know the owner of the 9 well? Would they 'ahem' maybe return it for you if you ran into problems? 😉
Otherwise, I've heard of the early 08/09 (?) EX's having frame (seatstay IIRC) issues but thought this was all sorted now?

yea heard of that too, but this is 2010 do should be sorted I hope.
