I'm converting my drop bar singlespeed to flat bars and so need some new brake levers. Will any old brake levers work or do I need to worry about cable pull? I have a recollection from a time when v-brakes come on that levers for those had a different pull to canti and caliper brakes?
Vee brakes require more cable pull than calipers - a vee lever with a caliper brake will give little modulation/ on/off feel. Shimano and others did make flat bar levers for road group sets e.g Tiagra BL-4700
If you're using "normal" road bike calipers you'll need teh levers with the correct pull ratio for that type of brakes, these are ideal for the money -> Shimano Tiagra 4700 Flat Bar Brake Lever Set
