Lots of threads about 29ers taking over and the death of 26in wheels so let's have a rigorously scientific survey to establish the facts. đŸ˜†

If you've bought a bike or frame in the past six months, was it a 26er or a 29er, what was it and what, if anything, did it replace?

I'll start. Bought a 29er SS Inbred to replace a 26in SS Inbred which I was running as a 69er.

Over to you...

(And, BTW, 26 is here to stay)

29er - Second hand trek X-cal frame from the classifieds and various new and 2nd hand bits. Not replacing anything just a case of N+1, wanted an xc bike for the winter mud so I dont trash my good 26er FS.

CX 700c and a Bandit 26" frame to replace a blur 4x 26".

Considered a 29er bandit but the new forks & wheels I'd need put me off.

24". I figured that as it was my 30th birthday I had better buy something that will remind me not to act like a miserable old git. Could put a 29er fork on and run it as a 49er though... That surely would combine all the benefits of 29" and 24"?

Hovering over the BIN button for a 26 inch wheeled Rohloff hubbed touring bike. No immediate plans for a 29er though had Cupra's Salsa Fargo in the classifieds been a Large instead of a medium I'd have given it a go.

My SS Inbred 29er frame arrived today!! đŸ˜› I decided to build this up to see if the 29er thing is for me or not. If I like it I may sell the Inbred 26er SS and then get a 29er FS.

Will be handing over the cash for a Trek Remedy 8 tomorrow and have a new Cotic BFe frame on order for delivery at the end of the month. So 2 more to add to the 26 list.

To be honest I never even thought about a big wheeler for either.

650b - 6 of them!

26 is dead for upper echelon XC bikes.. so says ScottUSA and Nino Schurter.
I doubt we'll see 26" sparks or scales once this current product cycle ends. Current spark/scale iterations were designed and tooled before the 650 bandwagon rolled in... sorry, before Nino won an WC on 650.

A 26 in July.

A 29 in October.

But that's not the whole story, when I bought the 26 (nice as it is), I hadn't properly tried a 29.

Now I have, I'm unlikely to buy more 26 for bread and butter riding, if at all. The 26 became drivetrain donor for the 29.

Bought a 29er FS, which has replaced a longer travel 26er FS.

Hope to build up a hardtail this year, probably singlespeed. Value for money on what I can get hold of will dictate the wheel size!

Lots of enthusiasm for (and buying of) 29ers among the chaps I ride with at the moment.

I used to think 29ers looked odd but these days I catch myself looking at 26in wheels and thinking "they look tiny".

I see the advantages of both and I like variety in my riding so I think I'll have at least one of each for the foreeable future.

My newest bike is a 26" Dekerf which I bought after selling a titanium 29er.

I still have a Kona Unit 29er which I use for general messing around and cycling to work.

After numerous miles on both 26" and 29" bikes though, any future bikes will be 26".

The MDE has already been ordered, so that must count. The Cotic isn't thinking of getting, it's am getting, so that's to your discretion.

Haven't bought an MTB in a long time (though I've wanted to, still riding the ones I've loved for years).

Last purchase was 700c... A Carbon Road bike. Replaced an ally road bike.

Quite fancy a 29er again (not to replace anything, to complement my existing 26" wheeled bikes), but really thinking a CX bike (so another 700c) would make a lot of sense for a lot of my riding.
