Bottomless Tokens -...

[Closed] Bottomless Tokens - Anyone used them ?

I've been toying with the idea of getting some of these and fitting them to my 120mm Reba SCs, I'm about 80kg and fairly aggressive on the front end and have heard somewhere that these help with making the fork more progressive.

Are all the bottomless tokens for 32mm forks the same ? i.e. do the ones sold by CRC for Pikes fit my fork ?

If anyone's fitted these, what difference have you noticed ? And how many did you fit ?

Thanks

Pikes aren't 32mm, at least not any more and the old ones didn't take tokens IIRC. I don't really know about Rebas but I suspect it would be useful to list the model year.

Good point, they're 2015 Reba SCs as supplied on a 2015 Specialized Camber Evo and I believe that they don't have any tokens in them from new.

Think you can get them for the latest Reba's. They're black and come with a replacement cap to screw them into.

2015 Reba's come with 2 tokens fitted and can take up to 4 (they're sold in packs of 5 for some unknown reason).

As the Specialized ones are OEM it's hard to know what they have.

Oh, and the Pike ones don't fit. You need the 32 mm specific ones.

I've no experience of RockShox forks, so I may be talking a load of bollox here, but couldn't you just raise the oil level to achieve the same results?

2 tokens made my Pikes feel just right. Before that they were bottoming out too easily.

I don't think the UK distributor has stock yet. I have a backorder, will have spares to sell.

Thanks for the replies folks.

GHill, I'll take any leftovers when you get them, mail in profile.

Unfortunately AndyR I believe you are talking bollox, but I'm prepared to be persuaded otherwise.

Cheers

I've blobbed oil and grease into things to reduce the air volume in the same way as tokens, but I don't think it's an option with single air forks because of the transfer valve, which is what most modern Rockshox are because apparently dual air is too complicated ๐Ÿ™„

You need the black ones for 32mm forks. I am told you'll need a new air cap if you want to retrofit to pre-2015 forks.

Oh right, so I was talking bollox then - mind you, I've never really paid that much attention to Rockshox forks anyway, let alone owned any.

TBH it seems like Rockshox intentionally make the air springs too big, because so much of the mountain bike audience is yanks on stupid steep long travel carbon bikes who want to feel like they're really using that 160mm of fork while riding over an acorn. It's fixable but the 26 inch pike frinstance, should come with 2 tokens fitted, it's just not right with none. Or maybe should just have a smaller spring so that it doesn't need add-ins.

At 140-145lb, I really like the tokens. Recently added one to my 120mm SID and two to my 140mm Revelation and they do improve the ride- similar small-bump performance (at 50psi in the Revelation, 55ish in the SID) with much less dive. May try a third in the Rev. and try dropping the pressure even lower.

FWIW, it probably wouldn't hurt to do the full rebuild when you're in there.

Where did you get them from ? I can't see anywhere in the UK that stocks them.

I'm actually in the States- my local shop was able to order them through a distributor. You might want to drop Fisher (UK dist.) a line to see if any have made it into the UK.
