[Closed] Bottom Bracket on Specialized Camber (FSA BBPF30 ) worn out

The Bottom Bracket on my Specialized Camber has worn out as there is play in it. According to a receipt from the Mechanic it is a FSA BBPF30 that was last fitted. It has only been on since October and has worn out already, which is extremely poor.

I'm thinking of replacing it myself this time but I've never done this before. The mechanic said that on this type of bottom bracket, you only need to replace the bearings when it gets worn. Does anyone know what bearings are compatible with this and what are the best value ? Also I need to buy the tools to do it but how do I know they are compatible before purchasing them ?

This is the tool

however I have never bothered with it. Grease the bearings and use a large bit of wood / something flat to knock in.

You can use a bit of threaded stud and some washers (and ideally an old bearing).

Just don't bang push wallop the inner race. Ensure all installation force is on the outer.

Clean the bore the bearing seats into well (and remember to smear with a smidge of grease)

Removal just involves a whack from a dowel (you can hit the inner race as you will just about see the edge when you remove the cranks)

Go for it!

Hardest bit is getting the cranks of and tapping the old bearings out. Rest is easy. On our carbon Specializeds there is a hole in the frame under the bottom bracket that is covered in the clear tape that protects the down tube. If you have one ensure that it's open and not blocked up. We are running quite a few press fit bottom brackets that get used in all sorts of conditions and haven gone through one that fast.

Yes good advice from Tracey

If it doesn't have a hole (pretty sure the camber does) either make one ๐Ÿ™‚ or (quite understandable if you don't) make sure any external cable holes / bottle mounts are sealed (I use a blob of thick boat grease).

Water can even run down the seat tube and collect in the bottom bracket area.
The hole is designed to let water out.

Periodically remove seat and leave bike inverted for a day or two after a really wet ride if you really want to be sure.
