Looking to install a new BB and cranks in a frame originally fitted with a 2004 Truvativ Isis BB (68mm shell). (2004 Marin trail)

The new crankset will be Shimano LX M580, the shimano website shows "50mm chain-line" for the BB. Is this the dimension that will influence the line of the chain to the rear mech?

Will it match that from the Isis unit originally fitted?

As you can see a little lost here, any advice much appreciated.

cheers,

Alex

IIRC The chainline is particular to your chainset, so the new LX one does not have to match the original Truvativ one.
For a 68mm shell shimano recommend that you fit 2spacers the drive side and one the non-drive side

so if I fit LX Front and rear I'll be OK?
Are spacers for the m580 BB available?

I'm guessing when I say (as in I don't have a definite confimration) that the chain line is 'just' down to the front, the rear has nothing to do with it.

Any hollotech type spacer will fit, your M580 should have some, otherwise post a wtd ad in the classifieds.

Thanks, I think that's what I needed to know, I suppose I'll but the thing, spacer is included, and see how I get on.
Cheers for the advice

Alex
