[#3837254]

Until last weekend I'd been a fan of Schwalbe Marathon tyres for my cx/tourer/road bike - puncture proof and good enough for on road and off road, but a bit heavy. However I had two bead failures, so now am considering something different as a replacement, width about 35c maybe...

Ta.

ive been riding the dusty trails and roads to them on some SB8s.

Theyve been fantastic, but Im pretty sure they wouldnt last for long if I just rode them on road all day long.

What paint / decal is that on? Looks cool.
SB8 is too knobbly to last on the road...

I use Michelin Trekkers for on off road commuting. Dead cheap too. Not race fast, but seem a good compromise.

SB8 are pretty draggy on the road..suprisingly.

What about Shwalbe Silento..

Can get them upto 1.75" in size

it's my new pompetamine
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/then-there-were-eight

the SB8s on the CX arent that draggy IMO, and actually run quite smoothly and quietly compared to my road tyres on the other pompino.
The 2.1" SB8s when on the MTB though are surprisingly draggy I think. But I might be a lone on that.

When Mrs S and I rode acorss France, we did very well out of Conti's Top Touring - 3,000 miles each and zero punctures. Not going to do well on gravels though.

Cheers Ton, those Vittorias look like just the ticket.

I got the V. randonneur "hyper" (whatever that means - folding bead?)

Happy so far. Nice middle ground in terms of comfort between the Fat Franks and the 28c gatorskins.

No your not alone, I agree, I think my Ardents 2.2 are less draggy on road than SB8 2.1s

Schwalbe Marathon Dureme Double Defense folding. Great on road, on gravel, light enough plus they just last forever. Mine have done hundreds of miles on my Salsa Vaya over the winter in rain, snow, on trails and still look new.

Vittoria randonneur here too. Bought them as they were lighter and cheaper than Marathons and reviews suggested they were just as tough. Early days, but happy so far.
