Tyres for an Orange 5. Read somewhere the Conti Mountain Kings that come fitted as standard are not good on this bike. I'm after tyres for general use - more on the dry side rather than sloppy mud. What are the options?

my MK's were dog sh1t - i'd recommend aything by wtd (currently using motoraptors = very good), or maxxis advantage, or specialized enduro pro tyres were very good too.

im a peak district rider by the way - so gives you an idea of terrain im used to

Conversely, my friend has just bought some more mountain kings for is orange 5 as he really likes them (peaks/yorkshire).
His are converted to tubeless. Perhaps that helps.

yeah i think it might do actually, my main issue was that they pinch flatted very very easily

I never got on with the mountain kings that came on the five but they were 2.4, the 2009 five has 2.2 mountain kings on it.

I run high rollers......boring I know but......

It depends on what and where you ride, but I run a 2.35" Kenda Blue groove on the front and a 2.1" Kenda Nevegal on the back. They just work in everything aside from thick sloppy mud and last really well.

Go for the folding bead ones though and save some weight!
