I've got a hope crankset with boost chainring that i could fit to my other bike, but it's a non boost 142mm rear, so guessing this might cause an issue when i want to engage the big ring on the cassette?

Anyone else done similar and have issues with the chainline, can it work, or is it a case of just biting the bullet and getting a non-boost chainring?

It's 3mm difference.
Just look at 3mm and see if you think any baby robins will die/ there will be a ball of flames.🙃

If your bb has a spacer on the right, shift it to the left.

3mm is the size of a tasty meal if you are a baby robin.

3mm is massive in engineering!

Just wanted to know if anyone had suffered doing this, i know with the rear mech adjuster i can get around 3mm, so doable, just didn't know if it was a pain for keeping the chain on a single, will give it a try and report back, unless i crash out again!

As above, move a BB spacer to non drive side, make sure you have chainstay clearance, and go
