There'll be 4 of us (I think) riding. I may well have a red, yellow and blue toy parrot on my shoulder and will be riding a carbon Stumpjumper FSR....
Oh yes. Torchbearer. (midnight-to-midday solo). Probably in the solo area this year. Big blue tent, straw hat, retro-ish turquoise yeti asr-sl.

I think I will be taking it easy this year. What with getting a wedding arranged and the poor weather earlier this year, I reckon I am the least fit I have been for probably 7 or 8 years.

Hello! Riding the 24hr pairs with my Bro in law. Team Midge Bite Racing. I'll be riding a black Scandal 29er with white forks, probably a black jersey with red arms. Oh and i'm a baldy.
Arriving Friday morning, hoping to get a good trackside space. Look out for slightly rusty white mercedes vito, blue Vango tunnel tent and on Friday evening our bent (from last years storm) gazebo will be going up. The wife and friends have are a team of 4 in the 24hr mixed category as well.
Really looking forward to it!

I don't think so. There's a rumour that this will be the last one at Newnham Park, but am not sure how true that is.
I'll be there from tomorrow, taking up the "glamping" posh wigwam offer and staying till Monday. Hope the storms don't arrive.
Doing my first 24 hr solo and this week have been enjoying a big fat taper after months of more or less continuous training.

Wonny J, if you are serous about the 'rest and relaxation' part of tapering, there is an Ale and Cider fest fri/sat/sun, a short mile up the road at the rather excellent [url= http://http://www.theminersarmspub.co.uk/ ]Miners Arms in Hemerdon.[/url] Also rather decent restauranty-pub food and very bike friendly, in fact they helped host a sort of trailquesty thing last year.
Good shout, I've been off the beer and even off the wine for the last couple of weeks, so that looks like an excellent way to redress the balance.
Beer fest and live music sounds perfect for Sunday afternoon. "Miserable sods" hour for discounts could be appropriate too.

For reference, in my mind 'nutty squirrel' grade is about kerb height, and 'venomous snake of gnar' is any higher than that......

In 24 solo Hackney GT kit (bright yellow top or one with polka dot sleeves). Great course great event but never had much luck there.... This time though 😀
this is the last one at newnham, i spoke to martyn a few months back, he mentioned something about sponsers wanting it to change venues.
Great having it on our doorstep these last 5 (or is it six?) years, but is must be a ridiculously fort-william-esque drive for some folk to get here. We have been spoilt with relatively cheap, excellently organised and fantastic trailed small and massive xc events courtesy of Martyn and Newhnam for many many years now. How he makes much money off this weekend when its up to four nights camping (three with hot showers at thousands of pounds per trailer alone) at not far off half the price of SITS/MM is beyond me!
Im riding for the above mentioned Revel Outdoors Team, my 4 team mates are racing but im the steady part of the troop!
Did it 3 years ago and cant wait to go back, although stunts in the camp sit will be strictly limited to skids this year after my wheelie went wrong and I crashed into a bbq......

As a premature arrival person, I can tell you all the site was bone dry, till it started raining 10 mins ago....
However, sumo village is starting to take shape! So far 3 caravans! Tomorrow the marquee and disco take shape 🙂

12 hr solo for me in glamping field In South Downs Bikes kit. Will be a great shame if this is the last time at this course, I had heard that part if the course was not allowed to be used again. Any one else heard anything ?

We had a pretty heavy downpour overnight in South Devon, but my local woods were still very hard and non muddy this morning, just wet on the roots. Sun is now beating down as well. So i'd imagine the course conditions will be just fine.
No dramas.

Its hot and sunny now, ground still really hard!

Good course so far and nice weather. Catering tent is very rubbish.
So far so good, one lap down, course is excellent and it hasn't rained. Yet.
We are double lapping so not been out yet. I'm due next. The course is pretty different to other years with a few interesting sections!

Well it's still dry here. I'm 11 laps in solo and I am hurting from a few spills (is there a sweet pressure spot on geax saguaros?)I'm going to limp it round until I drop or the race finishes lol. Overall it's a bloody great event!!!

I'm near the start of the lap -just past the uppy downy start section. There's a crowd of us near some Raleigh/Diamondback signage with a Slime ezy up.

All seven sumos finished at 12.05, after lurking in the quiet camp drinking strong cider for a while 🙂
Then we drank.... And we eventually fell asleep!
Right now we have 6 sleeping sumos and me!

Just got back home, great weekend and a brilliant course! I'm shattered now, congrats to all the soloists, and the sumo guys! Looked hard work in those suits! I got interviewed today by a couple of guys for the xc racer website while I was waiting to go out on my last lap, will have to check later to see if I made the cut 🙂
I'm still here 🙂 too far to travel broken :p you sumo guys are nuts. And mr singlespeeder isn't human!!

We had a great 12hrs, first time Me and Mrs XCwanabe tried 12hr pairs (first race for Wifey) she loved it. Much more fun than me soloing and we did a lot better than either of us hoped. 99% of the other riders were great giving Mrs XC plenty of space and tolerating her slower average speed.
The one guy that pushed passed her early afternoon going through the bomb holes, sending her into a tree and almost put her off going out again. I hope your final finish position was worth it.
Annoyingly it did include a trip to Minor Injury Unit on the way home, I seem to have broken my little finger. I thought it was sore on my last two laps.

Interesting race for me, clipped a rock with my pedal on my second lap, got thrown off and landed badly resulting in a hole in my arm and much blood spurting out. Many thanks to the soloist who stopped to help, the marshals who got me and the bike off the track and the St Johns people for treating me. 6 hours at A&E wasn't the result I had planned, or the honour of officially finishing last, but these things happen :-/

I too have had bad experiences of Mr London Fruit . Hes a good rider and pretty quick, Shame he has to be a cock.
Actualy thinking about it he was a cock at Erlestoke 12 and 24/12 last year, glad to see he's been a cock this year as well just to keep a good level of consistancy .
Brilliant couple of days, but it didn't feel that way at 0300 this morning to be honest! The Sumo's were an inspiration and the jump of doom kept the slog through the camp site interesting. Hats off the soloists. I don't think I could bare that kind of torture!
