[Closed] bontrager Rhythm Comp 29er tubeless conversion

Got a pair of these recently and want to run them tubeless. Not sure if I need a symetric or assymetric rim strip or if there is only the asymetric for 29er Rhythms???.
Alternatively, is it possible to use some Stans Yellow tape instead as I have some left over.

Stans tape works fine on them.

I have the 26 inch version of those wheels. They came with rimstrips and I ordered a spare pair at the same time - can't remember there being a choice. They do work incredibly well though, and I've just come back from a very enjoyable muddy, root ride where, fitted with mudx tyres, the wheels performed faultlessly.

Having just looked at the bontrager website, it would appear that there are two 29er strips to choose from - one symmetric and one that isn't labelled either way.

Drop them an email about it - they're generally quite helpful.

If the spoke holes are offset then you need an asymmetric strip - just be sure you have the asymmetricity (word?) in the right direction. Stans tape will work but inflation will be much easier with the bonty strip, especially important if you are not using a compressor.

Two wraps of Stans tape and Nobby Nic TLR tyres go up dead easy with a track pump. 8)

Just to update in case anyone is trawling the forums with the same question in months to come - don't use Stans tape...
Front tyre sealed ok.
Rear has two layers of Stans and won't seal.
The Bonty rims seem to have a deeper profile than Stans rims and the tape doen't like it. Tried twice now and both times I have ended up with sealant oozing out the spoke holes.

Pumped up again and went for a ride this evening. Five miles away from home and decided to give up and put a tube in as it had gone down again.
Pumped the tube up, took the pump off and the valve core shot out. Spent 20 minutes trying to find it before giving up and walking home! 👿
Bonty strips on order...

Bonty strips on order...

I'm thinking of converting my 26" Rhythm Comps to tubeless, do you mind me asking where you ordered the strips from? I take it I need the asymmetric strips? What liquid did you use?

Thanks

By default the Rhythm Comps are supplied with the strip fitted.

Sounds like user error to me. 😉

Only if you buy the wheels seperately to a bike 🙂

Got mine on my Trek Fuel EX 8 - so they only have normal rim strips for traditional tubes and tyres...

Anyone know where to get the strips from? I have seen Evans do what looks like the correct strip but it is described as "Bontrager Tubeless Rim Strips Front". Evans also have the valves which is useful.

Any Trek dealer should be able to order them from Trek UK. I have a couple of spare 29er ones floating around if you get stuck.

I fitted Mud X's at the weekend and whilst I was at it I decided to converted my Rhythm's to tubeless.

Got Rhythm rim strips and valves from Pedal On and I used Stans sealant. I can't believe how easy it was to set up. Added the rim strips, brushed the tyres amd rims with soapy water, added the sealant and pumped the tyres up with a track pump. Done.

What shotsaway said. Right royally pissed of my riding buddy how easy it was. We struggled for hours getting his set up with Stans (I think) 🙂

Be careful the Bonty Rhythm wheels have an offset spoke pattern but need symmetric rim strips . They are available from Trek dealers for £4 a time £4 for the Bonty valves and hey presto £16 + sealant and they work brilliantly .
