I'm in. Had an entry for the cancelled 2020 race, couldn't make the rearranged 2021 date so deferred to '22.
It'll be my first time racing as a Grand Vet!

Did it a couple of years ago. Deferred last year's to this but then wasn't fit enough to go and ride it.

Have done 'Ard Rock a few times but prefer Boltby TBH. Better vibe IMO.

I'm in for next year again though. Sign up was surprisingly painless. Will be at the wrong end of Grand Vets.

Done it afew times, its a smaller event than Ard Rock and better for it IMO. As said a relaxed and fun vibe. Signed up for the Enduro again..hoping for dryer trails than this year haha

You can add me to the list of Grand Vets on here doing it. Also on a held over entry from 2020. It would have been my first ever Enduro (in fact first ever sporting event since I was a kid) if I hadn't just got an entry for PMBA Gisburn for the month before.

I sometimes wonder what the hell I am thinking of entering things like this for the first time at 58, actually I'll be 59 between Gisburn and Boltby. Just come out of a year of cancer treatment which has left me feeling pretty worn out. Not that I was particularly fit before it. Oh well gonna have to get fit pretty quick then. If not watch out for me selling a couple of entries early next spring.

I'm in. Did 2018 and 2019 and loved it, was warm and dry both years too!

Great event.

@Jordan it's a perfect first event! The stages are technical and tricky to ride fast but we'll put together such that everyone can get round.

If you want a really good entry level event to ease you into it, th 3rd Birdsall Blast event is in March and will get you into the swing of an Enduro race at a really good small scale event.

@snotrag Yeah, at best I'm hoping to just get round but it does sound good.

I saw one of those Birdsall Blast events advertised this year and thought they looked fun, might try and get an entry, cheers!

You'll be reet mate. It's not a big course n most of the climbs people push anyway and just say it's cos they're saving energy

I'm in as well, did it last year and really enjoyed it, including the biblical rain that started 20secs before dropping into stage 5.

It's a great event that's very well organised. Entered for 2022, I saw that the enduro tickets went very quickly, I suppose if people rolled old entries over there won't have been as many up for grabs.

It does look an ace event and mates who have done it confirm it is. I was really looking forward to it but had to transfer my entry as still suffering from bust ribs from PMBA Gisburn.

Does it tell you when you can sign on for the sportive? Spotted there's a ticket for sale in the classifieds and the format suits my riding, what's putting me off is the 8am start on a Sunday which doesn't suit me at all. Might be more palatable if I can ride over Saturday at a reasonable hour, sign on then head over for Sunday.

@dangerourbrain

Rider Brief at https://www.boltbybashenduro.com/rider-brief/

Make of it what you will (0630 gets a mention ☹). Organisers are pretty sharp with email responses but I expect they'll be busy right now.

I make of that that I'll probably not bother then 😂

No way on earth I'm heading over for that time of the morning and as no one else will want to get a chip at 6.30 there will be a colossal queue by the time I would be thinking of arriving.

Thank you!

You are entered on the Sportive.

Please come to the Event Hub between 06:30 - 07:45 on Sunday 15th May to collect your SPORTident Timing card. There will be a Mass Start at 08:00.

The above is from my confirmation email. I for one won't be there at 6:30. If I miss the start by a few mins, its OK (in my books)

Edit: Also a mass start might be interesting

From similar stuff it's a big part of what appeals for the sportive to be honest. The fast folk will be long gone by the top of the first climb, the can't pedal won't pedal weekend warriors will be 5 minutes behind by the time you top out at high paradise and despite being much quicker on the downs they're not *that* much quicker on the downs. End result is it tends to be steady plodders like me in the middle so you get a reasonable run at the various stages without being in the way all the time and get round the loop at a pace you're happy with.

Enduro proper I just end up getting "rider" every 20 seconds down the first stage, finish the stage, pass many of those same riders on the way up repeat for stage 2 and so on.

Mass start - riders line up and are steadily released to ensure chips are activated as they pass through the start gate.

I've rode the sportive before, Its still a great ride the 1st big climb spreads out the pack nicely. Finished quite well too IIRC as I dont mind the odd climb.

Almost forgot about the allocated start times but nabbed a 10.30 slot

Long time reader of this forum had loads of great advice from others threads, including entering the boltby bash. Really can’t wait for it it’ll be my first ever event on a bike, I don’t expect to be fast but excited for a great day out. I will be riding a yellow Cotic BFEMax which will hopefully be enough bike.

BFe will be spot on for most of Boltby I reckon. I'll be horribly overbiked on my RocketMAX.

Does anyone know what facilities there will be for camping (toilets, showers etc)? Seen we should bring our own drinking water.

Haven't done it for 3 years. Back then there were toilets but no showers or water. Mates who did it last year said that hadn't changed.

@colournoise in their defence they scaled back a lot of things last year due to the 'vid. Hopefully this year it'll be a good setup. Gutted I can't race but I'll defo be there to watch on the Sunday.

Doesn't look like I'm even going to be able to watch now. The bust ribs have left me with a haemothorax causing a partialy collapsed lung, haven't got the breath to walk anywhere.

@relapsed_mandalorian Cheers bud! The ribs are starting to heal now, albeit a bit outof line so I have an interesting delve in my chest now. Could just do with the use of my lung back. Docs say give it another few weeks to see if it clears itself. If it doesn't then they will drain it which is by all accounts rather painful. Don't care though if it gets the lung working at full capacity again.

Doing the sportive, as didn't get entry in early enough for enduro, still looking forward to it. Is there a water fill up point on the course? Is the water limitation only at the campsite?

Was hoping to ride without a pack but if there's no water stop and it's warm I may need it.

Toilets are fine loads of thunderboxes.

Foods been usual events style food. Nowt special so no artisan smoked artichokes on a bed of kelp with a pine nut jui.

Again any prospective dog sitters?

How gnarly are the stages as not ridden this one before? Bike wise its a choice of the 140mm trail bike or 160 enduro rig.......

I've never done it before either but talking to mates who have and watching previous years videos, it doesn't look too bad - less so probably than Ard Rock/PMBAs. Lots of loamy woodsey singletrack - looking forward to it.

Pizza tent + burgers. That'll do me 🙂

Its just right in my opinion, tricky to ride fast, but all doable. Can't wait.

Back again for me, missed a couple of years so it looks like the Stages have changed, I think my last was 2019? No longer got the big fast open stage 5 to finish, bottom right of the map.

Although this does mean theres no monster climb at the end all the way up the bank just for the last stage.

@earl_brutus You'll be fine on either bike, just ride the one you feel most confident on. Loads of videos on YouTube of previous years stages.

Fingers crossed it stays dry!

But chilly today but its been perfect here abouts for a week or so. A couple of damp patches but not more than that, dry days with a tiny smattering in the evening just to stop everything getting blown away.

Last year was hilarious on the Sunday, 30 seconds before dropping in to Stage 5, the heavens opened, absolutely soaked through before starting and couldn't see a thing on the way down it was so heavy! The poor wife was at the bottom waiting to watch, instead she was cowering under a tree 🙂

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it this year, last year was my first and enjoyed it! Hoping for a top half finish but will probably be bottom half!

Still love the event and ill be back next year again

Absolutely brilliant as ever. It was incredibly hot on Saturday! Stages were brilliant, it's just the right level of tech for me. Only victim a spoke and a bent (but rideable) XT mech from a massive rock on a transition, gutted! Still managed to finish. No crashes. Fast and loose. Bone dry, dust, top crowd heckling, absolutely banging pizza.

Brilliant weekend! Hot and sunny on Saturday, few minutes of rain this morning but the stages were still dry and dusty.
No crashes or mechanicals for me, didn't get a great time but was happy with how I rode😎

What a great weekend, didn’t finish last but not far off. Trails where a little out of my comfort zone on day one but come race day rode all for it all be it carefully, 100% gonna do it next year. Really liked all the stages but really liked 4 and 1 the most.

Practice was super warm yesterday. Have ridden Boltby before with no issues, but it got into my head yesterday after a couple of tumbles on stage 2 and I just didn't trust my brakes after that so was super cautious and overthinking stuff. Woke up this morning and just wasn't feeling it so didn't ride the race today. Still loved Stage 1 and the second (rockier) half of stage 4.

Maybe I'm just not a loam rider...

At the ripe old age of 54, it was my first enduro. Not troubling the top 90% of the field! 😁 (75th out of 94 in my category, which was about where I thought I'd be)

Brilliant event though, about the upper limit of my skill level, but rode it all, with no incidents. Loved the variety, stage 1, fast, flowy, a bit exposed. Stages 2, 4 & 5, mix of loam (dust) out in the open, then singletrack through the woods, lined with bluebells. Stage 3, a right mix, and jumpy!

Reckon I'll be back next year, but might opt for the sportive, as just downhill speed does not play to my strengths!

Finished 160th/222 which I was reasonable pleased with, Never that fussed for chasing times anyway (Usually enjoy Saturdays practice more that the race itself TBH) but had a brilliant weekend. Weather/trails/people were mint still buzzing from it now!

Loved it, first time at the Boltby Bash. Weather was so good and we had a fantastic group to ride round together. Keep it rubber side down and no mechanicals so was happy with that. I like the stages, they were not mega difficult but still a challenge to try and ride fast. We had a couple in our group who were at their first Enduro race and they enjoyed it. I'll be looking to do it next year again.

Really enjoyed it, rode really well (for me) till Stage 5 when I washed out on a very loamy right hander. I'll be back next year and think I've convinced the Mrs to join me.

Similar to others - first time there after quitting "racing" (aka having a weekend with mates, eating and drinking and having to ride a bike a bit) a few years ago but had a great time. Will definitely be back next year. All the trails were awesome, felt like I rode ok. Wasn't massively keen on stage 4 after Saturday as it felt like I hit almost every immovable object on the way down (getting smashed on Friday night may have been the reason 😀 ) and although I absolutely loved coming down it yesterday, still ****ted a huge rock in the middle of the run which slowed me down a touch. Hardly done any riding this year (this weekend was only the 5th time on the bike this year I think) so the pedally nature of stage 1 and the top of stage 3 absolutely knackered me.

Epic chicken shawarma too.

Yep was there over the weekend and it was fantastic. Great stages and a nice atmosphere on the camp site, no bellendery encountered whatsoever.
I got in the top 3rd overall and the top quarter of my age category - I'm well happy with that considering it was the first racing I've done for many, many years, and first time in the course also.

2 major mistakes lost me maybe 20-30 seconds overall. Went down on a dusty berm on stage 2. Then on stage 5 I didn't leave enough of a gap and caught the rider ahead not far before the bottom. Both of which were annoying because I felt I was riding those stages really well / quick.
Had I not done the above, I could have maybe squeeked inside 10 mins.

I've already been musing about where more time could be made and watching back the GoPro to spot where the faster lines were that I missed!!!

So I think another entry next year is on the cards for sure!
