Surely I'm not the only one who saw Chris Boardman baffling the BBC breakfast presenters with his talking great sense about cycle safety?
Great interview. Well done Chris.

liked the bit where he said that if there was a spate of shootings, everyone wouldnt be forced to wear bullet proof vests, so why should cyclists wear hi viz stuff because a few get run over by motorists.

He also seemed to confuse the bloke who just sits there and smiles inanely at the camera.

Really changed their story didn't he - Thought he did well not to mention motorists attitudes (which is what I always leap to and would have resulted in a mass attack from the web!), just looking at the infrastructure and how they do things in Europe.

I think his points were really good!

It's ridiculous the way it's always mentioned in the headline of any 'cyclist killed' story: "It is not thought the cyclist was wearing a helmet", as if that somehow admonishes the driver of all guilt!

I'm not sure his Denmark stuff was quite so relevant, I don't think cars giving way to bikes all the time will change much, but in general I thought it was good.

Saw it, he did a great job, refreshing alternative take to the usual crap. I find myself agreeing with CB rather a lot, he always talks a great deal of sense

Very refreshing, CB set the interview off in the right direction by putting the dangers of cycling into perspective, eg; the deaths in comparison to obesity. He's a great spokesman, good on camera and his commentary over the tdf and olympics has been excellent.

Which reminds me of Wiggin's comments recently on helmets. If I understood him correctly, his view was not so much that they guarantee your safety, as much as its one less stick for a motorist to beat a cyclist with, if we're all wearing helmets.

Rewski. Good post, agree.

Didn't see all video before the interview but he came across really well.

His stats on cycling deaths were good and the comments about the need to change the hierarchy for road users to

/\ Pedestrians
/ \ Cyclists
/ \ Drivers
-----

He was great. So well prepared and resisted all efforts to get pulled into the slightly Daily Mail tone of their coverage.

He is incredibly well prepared and very easy to listen to. A great spokesman for cyclists. He should get wheeled out whenever this debate takes place. Brilliant!

Which is a POV I am also sympathetic towards, but as Boardman said that really does deal with the symptom not the cause.
