[#4603251]

it appears that i am. 😐

theres a small BMX park across the way from me but have never touched one before so have a few questions:

1) how do i not look like a sad old p*edo if i buy one and go over there (bearing in mind said BMX park is next to school and leasure centre)
2) will i die as i'm now on the downhill bit between 35 and 40.
3) who got tips for not breaking bones on BMX ramps?

1 ) There are many people who ride BMX's on here (Parks/street, dirt and racing) - of all abilities.

2 ) Only if you attempt a flip on your first park session.

3 ) Take it easy. Watch videos on YouTube (loads of howto's), and get used to riding a twitchy 20" wheeled rigid before you get anywhere near the park....

1. Dont dress like a yoof.

2.pads under jeans.

3. Lean down when carving so your bike is perpendicularish.

EDIT: oh and take your brakes off, all the other kids do.

Do it... Get a cheapest one and just ride it every time you go into town that'll soon get you used to the tininess

My mate has just sent his Skyway TA to the powdercoaters. I am now suffering BMX envy! My last BMX was a Rebel Freestyler with Skways, I watched an original frame and forks in survivor condition do £230 recently!!

Newer bikes seem really heavy compared with 80's stuff. Then again we were happy with basic aerials rather than jumping whole flights of steps...

Get a cheap one off eBay and give it a go.

I found that, rather than tackling the halfpipe, just practising basic things like manuals, flat 180s and fakies was fun with little chance of falling off, plus they are skills that help on the mtb.

Don't worry about the yoof, they won't bat an eyelid

im nearly 30 and love riding skateparks.. there are a few guys approachin 40 that regularly ride with down my local to.

my tip is.. do not buy a cheap bmx. buy a descent second hand one or even niceish new .
You can always sell it on if you dont like it.
Make sure u get the right size too.. The top tube length is the important part. if you are anywhere near 6ft you will need around a 21inch nch top tube.

I wear knee and shin armour plus a potty lid.
Make sure you practice the basics before attempting the crazy stuff.. I regularly practice manuals ,.180s, fakies etc whilst warming up.

I'm just outside Glasgow but can post no bother.

It's a decent bike, reason this one id cheap is I got it cheap and I'm just passing it on.
I also have my sons old Haro which you can have for 80 if you would rather have that. Just thought you may want to spend as little as possible to see if you like it and if you do then you can invest in a new bike. If you don't then you can simply move it on and no money lost.

🙂

For the top tube? I don't have lights in the garage so can't check just now but will do so as soon as possible.

Cheers
