Hi,

Will be heading up to Kingussie/Aviemore area next year with the wife and junior. Will be taking the bikes and the trailer for junior to be towed along. Can anybody recomend some nice routes in the area. Have looked at the Sustrans routes, so have a few to choose from there, but if anybody has done anything else, it would be great for some recomendations.

Cheers

Graham

Sorry I don't know the name of it (or have a map handy), but the cycle/walking path up to Boat of Garten was ideal for my trailer last year. Also did one of the routes round the Rothiemurcus, got a map from Bothy Bikes, which aside from the odd step on to a footbridge was again ideal for the trailer.

Sorry for the shitness of my geography...

Lots of stuff around Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilean etc. Get the 1:25,000 and have a nosey, you can't really go wrong.
You could also nip into Mike's Bikes at Inverdruie who will have a map or two for you to peruse.

Hi,

Think I've got those maps at home, it's good to get feedback on the routes.

Thanks

All the marked stuff South of Loch Morlich will be fine for you. You can get down to Loch an Eilean from there too.

If you head out past Laggan to the old road over the Corrieyairack, you could park at Garva Bridge and take the (still tarmac but exceedingly quiet) road to the bothy at Melgarve.

Forest roads South of Loch Laggan (past "Glenbogle") can be made into a loop. There is some extraction and resurfacing going on but it might have finished up for the year.

Down the West side of the Feshie. Park at the Uath Lochans and take the tarmac road right down to the end of the glen. It's likely you'll not encounter any cars, especially once past the locked gate.

Go even further along Loch Laggan and take the track into Loch Ossian. If you make it all the way, the track on the North side of the loch is wider, smoother, drier.
