Any medical types on here know of an over the counter product that has the side effect of temporarily reducing blood pressure?

garlic tablets helped one friend, beetroot juice helped another.

I'm not a medical type, but I do know pure full-bore beetroot juice is known to have that effect - something to do with its having high levels of nitrates, I believe.

No sure why you'd want to temporarilly reduce blood pressure, mind.

AS opposed to a beetroot juice spritzer?

no - and it would be very dangerous to try

You can learn biofeedback methods to do so. Bored on nightshift I have wired myself up to monitors to do so - can vary my pulse =/- 20% and drop my bp ten points or so. Its just learning to relax properly I guess.

Why do you want to do this? Actually alcohol does IIRC as do some recreational drugs.

Dehydrate yourself and prepare to feel pretty grim if you do it properly.

I think you will find alcohol raises your blood pressure.

Alcohol certainly long term raises it. Illegal drugs are not a viable option unfortunately but I've done some reading up on beetroot juice and that may well do the job.

Cheers guys.

I think a small amount of alcohol is supposed to reduce BP but keep on drinking it then raises it. A "J" curve, my doctor calls it.

Thing which will quickly lower BP are:
Dehydration (possibly)
Anti blood pressure meds (probably)
GTN spray/angina spray (definitely)
Poppers (probably)
Massive blood loss (definitely)
Becoming profoundly septic (definitely)

None of which are very sensible. Plus, if you have high BP, surely it's best to deal with it properly (although, I appreciate company medical = quick fix needed...)

Its more a case of already being on medication but needing to keep a little bit in reserve just in case!

Wouldn't dehydration increase it though as your blood would be thicker?

How about meditation, works for me. All you have to do is sit somewhere comfy and concetrate on your breathing - in through your nose and out through your mouth. You dont need to do any silly mantras or that sort of stuf, just find something to focus your mind on something other than the everyday nonsense that stresses you out.

Becoming profoundly septic

this one sounds most fun.

Not just septic but profoundly septic.

It's sepsis with depth.

sounds like a spectacularly irresponsible question to me.
