Just started using varifocals (prescription Oakley lenses) - I can see nicely and garmin is clear for navigation and stuff but…… my bike feels really tall! Bit weird. Something to do with the distance vision perspective I think

Anyone had this?

My Mrs had this just standing up when she first got varifocals - I had it the first time I wore single vision lenses (very mild prescriprtion) on a bike, felt very weird

It happens initially, doesn't take long before you don't notice it.

Be careful riding drops and walking down uneven ground until you get accustomed to them.
Spreadsheets are fun until your brain corrects your perception.

I once had a pair of clear cycling glasses that were totally unusable, it was like I was levitating above the bike and it didn't matter how long a wore them it never went.

I have no issues using varifocal glasses

The really wierd one is if you look down when cycling along a cycle path that is paved with smaller slabs. They rapidly change shape as they flicker under your bars (or they do for me). Apart from that I found the adjustment to them fairly easy.

As others have said you'll adapt pretty quickly. The only thing that still fools me is putting the cutlery away, I often mistake a large tea spoon for a dessert spoon.

Do varifocals have the same issue as bifocals when you talk to someone on a phone video call you can only see clearly by giving the other person a view of your nostrils or looking rather posh with the raised chin ( slight exaggeration but you probably understand!) Perhaps reading glasses should be worn for those times ?

I had exactly this same issue with my varifocals, first ride with them (at FOD) I had to stop and take them off.  Persevered with them and have now gotten used to them, in fact when I tried to ride without them one day the bike felt really small and close to the ground!

The effect for me seemed to be confined to things that are close, like the front wheel, looking down the trail helped a lot.  Made realize how much I stare at what's right in front of me.

Yeah, that was me too. Bought a pair of Oakleys, got them reglazed with clear lenses for my prescription, and thank god I took my usual glasses in my bag too as the first rock garden on the trail was seriously sketchy. Never did adapt as I'd only wear them riding.
