just ordered a shimano bleed kit for my older style M810 saint brakes and realise that I don’t think the kit with the cup and syringe will quite work as the levers don’t have a reservoir screw but the reservoir cap instead. This means the cup won’t work I guess?

Can anyone advise if this is the case and I need to bleed the brakes from the lever down, instead of pushing the fluid up from the calliper using a syringe as I do with the new style XT brakes?

I had old Saint 820 levers before I swapped them out for modern XT levers. I used to bleed up from the calipers.

Thing is that the fluid fills into the cup which is reasonably big at the lever with the new kits but if I can’t use the cup and bleed from the calliper won’t the fluid just deluge over the reservoir.... unless I’m really careful with pushing through the fluid?

There used be a guide on ride io or ride monkey but I'll be damned if I can find it now. There was a kit avalible, it had a g-clamp that had foam on the top. This clamped over the open reservoir you attached a kind of bleed bottle to it then a syringe at the calliper. I've got one at home I'll take photo when I'm back as you could make one yourself.

You could do it with the reservoir open, just make sure you keep a rag handy.

Looks like I’ll just have to be vigilant with syringing the fluid in from the calliper and as said keep a rag under the reservoir.

Cheers

I just hang a small bucket from the bars to collect the spillage

Just did my m810 yesterday. Syringe at caliper pushing fluid, another syringe to drain the reservoir when it fills. Keep draining the res until You've flushed enough fluid through. Works a treat.

That’s awesome tails thanks.

Tbh I’m going to try the gang a bucket method this time round and see if ebay has any of those clamp and bottle thingies for next time.
