cycled lever to caliper and back numerous times, sucked, squeezed, pushed, pulled, but still nothing - pistons not moving at all
beginning to think they are knackered
just rebuilt lever because lever piston was sticking
using 2 x reverb syringes, never really had any issues before
any brainwaves

Are you following the normal “bleed the caliper, bleed the hose, bleed the lever” process?

yes - no air seems to come out of lever though

Did you change the olives on the hoses by any chance? I had the same thing when I screwed the olives on the wrong way around.
They weren't bottoming out inside the lever, so the stopper inside the lever was just blocking the flow of fluid.
If the hose isn't fully screwed in, there will be no flow.
