What are the best routes to do in the Black Mountains? I have a route from the MTB Brecon Beacons site starting in Crickhowell is this a good one? Is anyone riding in the area Sunday ?

Simon,
I cant be bothered trying to scan the routes so Ive taken a pic of my map.
Im just about to email you the original photos of these two pics so you can zoom in.
You should be able to mark out the 3 route son your own copy of OS Explorer OL13.
Blue, red and Pink - pink is more of a collection of rideable bits rather than a single route.

Cheers Stoner really helpful ๐Ÿ™‚ I'll see if I can sketch the routes out later. Do you know where the best place is to park/start from was thinking Crickhowell?

I usually like to start from the pub in Llanbedr (SO 240204)

The bear in Crickhowell is a nice pub for B&B and dinner BTW.

EDIT: the red route on the bottom map is a 30k starting in crickhowell.

There's 2x red routes marked. That one and one out of Bwlch.

I did most of that blue route at Easter - couple of differences but it was fabulous.

or if you want something a bit shorter, see that red one on the left. Start at Bwlch, somewhere near the old quarry there is parking, head to the ridge track, follow it North, nice steep descent to the pass and then skirt the west side of the common back to Bwlch as per the map

pink descent out top of Mynydd Du is a good flow

I've got some maps of the routes in BB, I'll try and scan them in (but I"m giving blood tonight.........) I hated the BB because of all the moto x riders and the routes were just plain rubbish.

Stoner

I was staying at Felindre so I saw it on the way up but it became the final descent - loose and a few steps to start then bigger rocks and steps and then a grass finish - lovely.

Funny red chocolate mud you have down there!

It was on the Beacon Red, I've also had it on the Crickhowell Loop.

In the end did a slightly different 40km route to the one posted above which was SUPERB! 8) Loved the Crug Mawr descent back to Llanbedr. Even managed to tag along for most of the route with a local rider so not much map faffing about needed!
