I suspect that high end frames, from companies that primarily retail through shops, are a weird one when it comes to retail price. Often I suspect that the price is kept high to prevent people buying the frame and a load of cheap bit from the internet as a way of under cutting the full bike price.

Generally to sell high end frames it's a small volume business, you need to be set up as a dealer, hold stock and have a minimum purchase each year. They also take longer to build as they will have more options (some bikes come nearly built others as parts only) they are at times harder to sell and will sit on the shelf longer. I've had trade + Tax on a fair few bike bits over the years it's a margin but it's also there to include, sales, after sales and support along with providing a long warranty in a lot of cases.

Mr Agreeable said it - black Friday is about selling all the worthless crap that's taking up valuable warehouse space, at a knock (each other) down price.
