Looking at buying a passat estate (2000-2002, TDi 130).
Is having a cream interior for a car that will be used partially as a van for bike carrying a really really bad idea or are there ways of attempting to save the seats etc? seat covers / tarpaulin box thing for the rear?
Or shall i put it completely out of my mind and stick with black interior?
Black shows dirt more than light colours do.
Put a tow bar rack on.
I use a cheap tarpaulin - less than a tenner from B&Q - which you can wrap the bike up in.
An old shower curtain if you're fussy
Tarp, shower curtain. The mud will come off, it's oil that's a problem. DEpends if you are careful or not and how much you want the car to stay looking nice or if it is just a tool for a job?
Couple of old double duvet covers/sheets and you'll be grand!
It just depends how fussy you are. We have an Astra Estate bought really for schlepping bikes and stuff around in and just accept it's messy. It can be hoovered out but I never seem to get round to it somehow.
I do use an old tablecloth to protect the back from the worst of the grot, but even so there are a few gouge marks appearing in the rear. Heigh ho, that's what it's there for.
Hmmm maybe it could be an option. tow bar rack would be good but some friends don't want their bikes on the back of the car. god knows why.

They can always cycle there and back or get their own cars.
are you thinking about resale? I use a similar vintage mondeo as a bike car and think nothing of it - just let it get dirty in the boot
