Looking to get a new stove, have been using a cheap highlander hpx300 stove which has been fine but smaller pots don't fit or are poorly supported.
Any fuel considered.
Don't want burner on top of gas bottle.
The less cash the better.

I use a Jetboil and rate it. Very good in all conditions I have been in so far. They are not cheap though. there are coke / tin can stoves that can be made and run off meths. Never tried my self but I am sure others here have and can comment.
You want a hexy burner. £4, utterly bombproof, weighs very little and fits in a mess tin with its fuel, no fuel leaks and you can supplement it with twigs etc if you want.

Used for backpacking around Scotland for a week and it was great.
I use a hexamine mini stove from backpackinglight.co.uk it's 8 grams of titanium!
If you want to go down the alcohol route then check out the one handmade by bearbones bikepacking.
Either of these systems with 2 days of fuel and a ti pan will be lighter than an empty gas canister
I dont think you get better than a cheap gas stove - even 'posh' brands like my Edelrid are wobbly with pots on IME.
I also have a second hand uber cheap titanium mug and hex (6g!) burner, and homemade windshield for one nighters / bothy trips / good forecast...
